18/01/2026: We journeyed two hours from Assisi to reach this hidden gem, and the experience was worth every kilometer. Pitgliano, the town itself, is an absolute spell rising from the rock. And the food here? Pure art on a plate. The kitchen at Trattoria Il Grillo treats food as storytelling. The Cinta Senese, a traditional Tuscan specialty, prepared in a pistachio crust with fig sauce and caramelized spring onions, was an unexpected symphony of texture and taste, both rustic and refined. The tortelli with ricotta and spinach in meat sauce was a masterclass in comfort. And then there was another pasta, its name escapes me, with crispy cabbage, the kind of dish that makes you slow down to savor every bite. Even the house wine was a delight and perfectly matched to the meal. Just for having a meal here, it’s worth the drive. We’ll certainly be back to explore more of the menu.

05/01/2026: We went there for Sunday lunch. We arrived around 3 PM without a reservation, but they seated us anyway. Prices are a bit high, but worth it! The dishes and the quality of the ingredients were excellent. I gave the service a 4, only because when we were there, there was a birthday party with many guests, so the focus was mostly on the outside. However, the staff is very attentive and welcoming.

28/09/2025: Sunday lunch at Claudia's...just like home! Everything is freshly made and of excellent quality. Try the cantuccini she makes, they're delicious. Also recommended for the hostess's friendliness.

21/09/2025: Spectacular food: we had pici with white ragù and rabbit with olives. The pici are homemade and you can taste it, and the rabbit simply melted in your mouth. Ms. Claudia manages EVERYTHING herself: kitchen, service, cash register, reservations... she has incredible energy. I understand that the service is slower than usual for these reasons, but in my opinion it's absolutely worth it. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates good, traditional food, a calm and welcoming atmosphere, and has that extra bit of patience to support someone who, in my opinion, puts all of herself into the work she loves. P.S. Lunch was accompanied by delightful bossa nova music (at a very moderate volume, of course), which I found perfect for the atmosphere.

Two, a place for the new members of the community from England and elsewhere, who now call the Abruzzo region as their home, to be welcomed into the community, enjoy the humble, real and authentic hospitality of this Italian family run cafe. A highlight of this place is not only its peaceful surroundings where life slowly passes by, with locals sharing funny jokes, the old boys playing bocce or youth kicking a ball around, it's the view of the surrounding mountains and rolling hills of olive trees and grapevines. Beautiful. The only thing unusual about this place is Paolo's love for his beloved Inter Milan club, which I feared to let him know I support Juventus. But no matter who you support, he and his sister welcome you with open arms and an intoxicating Italian passion. 31/12/2025: We had dinner on the evening of December 25th. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was quick. The pizza was thin and easy to digest. I had the pepperoni and eggplant pizza, while my husband had the white zucchini with ricotta salata and cherry tomatoes. Both were excellent. The desserts were delicious. I recommend them!

05/01/2026: A pleasant surprise! We ate wonderfully and were greeted with great courtesy by the staff, who were always kind and helpful. The quality of the ingredients is excellent: the meat was delicious, the pasta dishes exceptional, the pasta truly flavorful, and the appetizers plentiful and prepared with fresh, typical local ingredients. We ordered the house wine, and despite being the house wine, it was truly delicious. A very pleasant experience that we recommend to anyone looking for good food and attentive service.

30/12/2025: Dinner on Sunday, December 28, 2025. We arrived at 8:00 PM (there were 9 of us). We were seated in a beautiful room with a domed ceiling. Local friends informed us that it used to be the castle's granaries. They took our order: only 9 pizzas, no appetizers or anything else. 6 Coca-Cola Zeros in 33cl bottles, 2 medium-sized light beers on tap, and a 1-liter bottle of Nepi water. The entire order was fulfilled at 9:25 PM. Unimaginably slow. The pizzas were probably rolled out with a machine, as they had small holes on the edges and were mostly oval. Of course, one could be rolled out differently and slightly off-round, but 9 of them all the same (and oval, like a rugby ball) doesn't seem possible. I've definitely had better ones. Total price: €129. About €14 per person. Luckily, I live in Rome (160 km from this place). No. I don't recommend it (personal opinion).
