15/09/2025: This morning I walk into the shop and the girl behind the counter is wiping down the shelves. I wait for her to finish and ask for two scoops of plain flour. She tells me the price and I pay. She doesn't give me a receipt and starts serving the next customer. I wait and ask for one. Obviously annoyed, she goes back to the register and prints it out for me. I thank her and leave. I'm home and we get the bread. It's soft and crunchy to the touch, except for the thick, burnt underside. When I open it, it gives off a strong smell, somewhere between vinegar and ammonia. The crumb is like play dough... where has the old-fashioned bakery gone?
15/09/2025: Unfortunately, I must express growing disappointment with Livio Montaldo's bakery, which I've enjoyed frequenting for years. Lately, however, the quality of service has significantly declined.
For example, the other day, I ordered a tray of pizza and focaccia for the following day. However, when I picked it up, the tray wasn't ready, and instead of being prepared as requested, it was made up "on the spot" with whatever was available. This meant the requested products weren't present in the quantities requested (given that it was an office celebration, this embarrassed me).
When I tried to pay by card, I was rudely told that I needed to "be patient" because my phone was out of battery. After five minutes of waiting, I opted for another payment method. This isn't an isolated incident: I've had the cash register close early several times, making it impossible to pay electronically or obtain a receipt, or being asked to make multiple transactions to avoid fees. Furthermore, when I asked to pay by card, the comments were never the friendliest, with phrases like "Hey, if you don't have cash/Satispay."
This isn't the first time orders placed in advance were not prepared correctly or even "lost." The lack of organization has ruined more than one occasion (this is a problem noted not only by me, but also by friends and family).
Another disappointment is the poor product availability. In the past, when I arrived in the morning around 7:30, the counters and shelves were always well stocked with all kinds of products. Lately, however, I often find the store sparse and with limited selection.
I'm truly sorry to write a negative review, because the bakery used to be really good and decent, but for now, I think I'll change bakeries.
I hope this can be constructive criticism and that the bakery returns to what it once was.
