During our vacation in South Tyrol, we tried many restaurants – but none impressed us as much as this small, traditional Italian restaurant in Bolzano.
The menu is manageable, but that's precisely what speaks for the quality. The emphasis here is on freshness, regional products, and genuine craftsmanship. Every bite was a little feast – authentic, honest, and full of flavor.
The prices are surprisingly moderate, especially considering the quality of the food. You can tell: This isn't about fancy stuff or tourist rip-offs, but about real taste.
A big compliment also to the warm service – attentive, friendly, and always up for a pleasant chat. We felt completely at home.
Conclusion: We haven't eaten better anywhere during our entire vacation. This restaurant is an absolute insider tip for anyone who appreciates good food and genuine hospitality. We'll definitely be back!

31/05/2025: Don't let the rustic atmosphere scare you—this place might look a little old-school or rough around the edges, but the food is absolutely worth it. Osteria del Picchio serves up genuinely delicious dishes that feel homemade and full of flavor. The vino della casa was also a pleasant surprise—simple, smooth, and paired perfectly with the meal. If you're looking for a true local spot with character and great food, give it a try!

25/05/2025: We had booked the BBQ (grilled area) in exchange for drinks ten days in advance. We even double-checked and confirmed the reservation, and the lady on the phone clearly promised us the space.
We organized everything carefully, invited our friends for the planned BBQ, paid for all BBQ stuff, and even traveled all the way from Bolzano to the restaurant. This was supposed to be a special day, and we had trusted the restaurant to honor their commitment.
However, upon arrival, we were shocked and disappointed. First, the lady told us there was no reservation at all. Then, after some back and forth, she admitted she had our booking but claimed we should have called again. Moments later, she changed her story yet again, saying the BBQ area was already being used by someone else.
Frankly, this behavior is unacceptable and unprofessional. It raises a serious question: if the business owner cannot even keep a simple promise for a booking, how can they be trusted to deliver on other important aspects like food quality, hospitality, and customer care?

29/05/2025: Ottimo ristorante nelle vicinanze del centro di Bolzano. molto buona la cucina soprattutto per quanto riguarda il pesce... Spettacolare l'antipasto caldo di pesce così come la tartare di tonno. Buono il servizio. Il ristorante sforna anche pizze.
Prezzo non economico ma in linea con il rapporto della qualità servita. Unica pecca da non attribuire però ai gestori, qualche difficoltà nel trovare parcheggio nelle vicinanze

15/04/2025: Unfortunately I have to agree with the many opinions about the bad food. I had ordered the Melanzane di Parmigiana for lunch... what I got was a "joke", tiny portion,... burnt on the outside and rock hard. I told the waiter and he just smiled...
20/03/2025: If you want to spend a pleasant evening in the center of Bolzano, I can only recommend this restaurant.
The place is very beautiful, well looked after, with a large outdoor area and an internal room (but if I'm not mistaken, there must be another room on the upper floor). The staff is kind, fast, attentive without ever being intrusive.
The cuisine is very good, the dishes are balanced in flavor and fair in portions. For example, I took the tartare as an appetizer, served with butter and a particular mayonnaise; a risotto with pumpkin, cream cheese, hazelnuts and raw prawn, much appreciated. Finally the dessert, a vanilla and mango semifreddo.
It's not the first time I've come here, and it won't be the last.

04/02/2025: Il locale, situato in una via laterale del centro storico a 5min da piazza Walther, si presenta carino e ben arredato.
Il menù, che varia in base al periodo, propone piatti non strettamente legati alle ricette della tradizione locale.
La carta dei vini è ben fornita, dove, oltre a vini del territorio, è possibile scegliere etichette provenienti da altre zone della penisola.
Il conto leggermente alto rispetto all'offerta della zona.
14/12/2024: Ho avuto il piacere di festeggiare il mio compleanno presso questo locale e devo dire che ne sono rimasto veramente soddisfatto. In primis per la disponibilità del titolare che si è prodigato per perfezionare il menù mettendo anche a disposizione alternative per i vegetariani; poi per tutto il personale che si è dimostrato professionale e molto disponibile ad accontentare varie richieste nel miglior modo possibile, nonostante la tavolata comprendesse un numero abbastanza elevato di invitati e nonostante il resto del ristorante fosse davvero full, insomma una festa come me la ero immaginata. Per quanto riguarda il cibo è stato tutto davvero ottimo, confermato da tutti i commensali compresi i vegetariani. Il conto è stato più che in linea con la qualità del cibo servito. Locale vivamente consigliato e ancora grazie per tutto!

06/01/2025: What a shame it is closed due to partial destruction caused by the landslide! We stayed there in 2012 and 2014. They were both excellent experiences! Stupendous views, great rooms, delicious food and a warm welcome. Two Brazilian tourists following the Via Claudia Augusta on their bikes! No one should complain that the climb is steep! It was a great experience to arrive at the reception by bike! This year, to repeat the feat, the sad news! Closed! Thank goodness no one was hurt! We will stay somewhere else, but we will miss it!

25/02/2025: Il locale è un po' nascosto (un'auto enorme davanti l'aveva coperto), l'interno è semplice, servizi minimali ma in ordine.
Menu con QR.
Per un pranzo veloce prendiamo un fritto misto in due come antipasto (20€), ricco e cotto bene.
Poi prendiamo spaghetti fatti a mano con vongole e bottarga (vongole di taglia molto ridotta) 15€ e un filetto di ombrina con patate al forno e verdure (25€), cotto molto bene.
Non ci sono indicazioni sul menu, quindi è da intendersi che il pesce è fresco.
Per concludere un gelato al limone (3 palle a 6€).
Coperto 2€ a persona, acqua 1lt 3€, vino 3/3.5€ a calice. Totale 81€, direi equo.
Devo dire che abbiamo digerito bene, senza problemi (per me è indice di buona qualità), e lo posso consigliare per un pranzo o cena senza fronzoli, ma veloce e preciso.
01/02/2025: Sono stato per lavoro in fiera Klimahouse e una sera abbiamo scelto questo ristorante;
La location è minimale senza troppi fronzoli, il pesce è sapientemente cucinato e molto fresco. Per quanto riguarda la carta dei vini farei una proposta diversa incentrata tra territorialità della zona e vini campano siciliani che costituiscono un buon abbinamento alla cucina proposta! Da provare assolutamente!
