La Locanda del Macellaio

25/08/2025: For us, it remains our favorite place. A large counter with a wide selection of very fresh meat that you can choose on the spot and it's cooked right away. The interior is spacious and bright, while the outside is a bit cramped, but pleasant. Excellent service and very friendly, helpful staff.
21/08/2025: The meat is amazing and at a great price! From this perspective, La Locanda del Macellaio is highly recommended.
However, I must point out two major problems (which could be largely resolved with the owners' goodwill).
Hygiene. The raw meat (which customers select at the counter before being assigned a table) is handled with bare hands by a person who alternates serving at the counter with every other activity. He touches people, objects, chairs, his own clothes, his own nose, and finally the meat. A whole different level of hygiene is required, and it wouldn't take much.
Second problem: ventilation. The interior is not ventilated at all, and evidently the grill hood doesn't extract air properly. The result: the room was slightly foggy and had a constant smell of smoke.
I reiterate the positive aspects for which, overall, I would recommend La Locanda: quality and price!

13/08/2025: Wonderful stay in a beautiful masseria. The staff is exquisite and friendly, the rooms are spacious, the breakfast is excellent, and the pool is perfect for relaxing. The location is quiet and perfect for visiting beautiful Ostuni. I definitely recommend it!
03/08/2025: Divine place. Stylish accommodation. Luxurious swimming. Tried the 8-course tasting menu for one. Portions are large enough, we ate for 2. Must visit!

I would kindly ask the restaurant to update the menu prices because on the official website, a first course costs €9, but when you arrive, you'll pay around €17. Furthermore, a €6 cover charge for two people, and receiving one artichoke for €7, and the bread arriving after the first course, I find truly embarrassing. €52 for two first courses, an appetizer, and a water is honestly a bit excessive.

08/08/2025: We've dined at this restaurant several times, always with satisfaction, but tonight we were the subject of a truly unpleasant experience. We arrived promptly at 8:30 PM, the time of our reservation, took our seats at our table of four (two adults and two children) and quickly chose our order. The area around us was almost empty at first, but in the following minutes several other groups arrived, and they were all served before us. The common thread: they were friends of the owner and/or "high-spending," as it's now fashionable to say. In one instance, we pointed out to the owner that we'd arrived before those he'd ordered from, but he denied it, claiming they had arrived first. The only table sharing our experience was, coincidentally, composed of only three people. After half an hour of waiting and futile reminders, we decided to get up and leave, explaining our reason to the waiter who had just appeared. The owner, after overhearing our conversation, told us as we were leaving, "This isn't a place for you." I won't add anything else.

04/08/2025: Sabato 26 luglio, tavolo prenotato da mio suocero per festeggiare il compleanno di mia moglie. Arriviamo puntuali ed il tavolo esterno che avevamo richiesto era occupato da altri ospiti, avremmo dovuto attendere le 22… una signora straniera con fare poco gentile ci informa che avremmo potuto sederci all’interno, in una sala talmente umida che il pavimento era pericolosamente scivoloso… titubanti, ci prendiamo qualche minuto per capire cosa fare e, dopo aver deciso di rimanere ugualmente, un cameriere ci informa che non sarebbe stato possibile cenare perché erano al completo, come per farci intendere che non eravamo graditi, disgustati dai modi cafoni e codardi andiamo via. Risultato: i signori hanno mandato via una famiglia con dei bambini e rovinato il compleanno di mia moglie… fare ristorazione non è facile, ma farlo con serietà ed educazione per dovrebbe essere un obbligo, perché acchiappare turisti ad Ostuni non ci vuole molto, ma farli tornare è difficile! 30/07/2025: Avevamo prenotato un tavolo alle 21:30 e ci hanno fatto aspettare più di mezz’ora prima di farci accomodare al tavolo.
La terrazza è molto carina poiché si può vedere un magnifico panorama. Bisogna dire che l’acustica è pessima: vicino a noi c’era un tavolo di americani rumorosi ed è stato piuttosto fastidioso perché si faceva fatica a parlare.
Abbiamo trovato un servizio poco rispettoso e molto affrettato.
Trovo inoltre assurdo obbligare i clienti a ordinare minimo due portate a testa.
Il cibo è piuttosto mediocre, non consiglio minimamente questo ristorante. Ad Ostuni ce ne sono parecchi di migliori.

12/08/2025: We had pizza. Delicious! The one with mortadella, mozzarella, and pear. Very tasty, I recommend it. We had a Bellini, which we'd been looking for for days. For dessert, we had cannoli!
The service was super good.
We stayed inside because it was very hot, and the atmosphere was super cool and pleasant.

17/08/2025: Delicious meal and we were happy to get a table on the same day. The food was very good although we felt rushed through the meal. The servers take your order and appetizers come quickly. We got the zucchini flowers and calamari fritti, which were very good. They do two seatings at 730 and 9 and make it known you have to arrive on time so they can have the next table ready.

11/08/2025: A small, welcoming restaurant nestled in an alley in Ostuni. The food is excellent, with a style of preparation that sets them apart from many other local restaurants. We sampled excellent seafood. The service was friendly and attentive. The wines were good. The bill was slightly above average for what we ate, but it's definitely worth a try.
04/08/2025: The restaurant is located in a charming alley in the heart of Ostuni, with tables arranged along a picturesque staircase. The atmosphere is undoubtedly charming. The staff was also friendly and helpful, which is certainly a plus.
Unfortunately, the quality of the food didn't live up to expectations. Some dishes may satisfy those unfamiliar with Apulian cuisine, but certainly not locals or those familiar with the authentic flavors of tradition.
The meatballs on the menu, for example, are neither fresh nor local, but clearly frozen and of rather low quality. It's disappointing that they're also used in the so-called "orecchiette ostunesi," resulting in a result that bears little resemblance to authentic local cuisine.
Furthermore, many dishes are excessively liquid, with the pasta submerged in broth, further compromising flavor and texture.
I'm sorry to say this, but the experience was not a positive one. Those who choose to spend their money in a restaurant deserve authenticity and respect.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a true Apulian gastronomic experience. Fortunately, there are plenty of other good, quality, and authentic options in the area.

30/07/2025: Piacevolissima sorpresa trovare questo locale in un posto molto panoramico ed un’atmosfera che più napoletana non si può! Dalla calorosa accoglienza tipicamente partenopea al cibo molto buono (il Cuoppo di terra e il Capocollo di Martina e burrata) alla pizza “autenticamente” napoletana. Bravi.

17/07/2025: Very nice place. We made a reservation. They had an all-you-can-eat option for Apulian panzerotti, but we didn't try them, so we opted for the set menu. We had the house appetizer, which was good but tasted like leftovers from various dishes—namely, gratinated mussels and parmigiana—let's just say we were expecting a different kind of appetizer. Then we had a first course, orecchiette with turnip tops. The portion was generous, and the simple flavor was like homemade. They also had desserts, but we didn't like the selection, so we didn't order them. The waitresses were very nice.
