06/01/2025: Last Sunday, for the first time, I decided to try the "Il Vecchio Mulino" restaurant in Mammola and I was pleasantly impressed. The welcome from the staff, kind and smiling, was appreciated. I went there to eat fish dishes based on stockfish. In the menu I found the combinations proposed very interesting, which simplify the choice. I opted for an appetizer of stockfish and added some grilled stockfish with potatoes: everything was tasty and satisfying. I also appreciated the wine list, well stocked and able to complete the experience. The final bill was not excessive at all. In summary, I give 5 stars to the overall experience: I will certainly return in the future to taste other specialties.

19/12/2024: Most disappointing restaurant I’ve been to in Italy so far. I got the seafood platter for 15 euro. The shrimp and the small white fish were fine, although I wish they had deveined the shrimp. The worst was the rancid swordfish steak. It was spoiled and smelled bad. I took a bite and had to spit it out. Ew! The octopus was also tough and rubbery. I tried to eat it anyway, but gave up. The grilled veggies were ok, but overwhelmed by herbs. Too much. It was like the chef grabbed a handful and tossed them over everything. As a tourist I didn’t want to make a scene about the bad food. I tried to explain it to the waiter but there was a language barrier. On the bright side, the wine was ok. And I ate 4 slices of bread. The staff was very nice, which is refreshing!

02/01/2025: Restaurant visited for a weekday lunch. From the outside the location doesn't give an idea of ​​the quality of the cuisine, especially the sign which is decidedly dated. Very friendly staff inside, who welcomed us into a large dining room. We had a fish-based lunch, with excellent various starters (gratin mussels, fried prawns, stuffed cuttlefish, roasted octopus, squid and cherry tomato salad...) followed by a first course (spaghetti with clams). Fair price (€37 per person) and fairly quick service. Super recommended for eating excellent fish!

22/12/2024: It is a unique place: the place is very particular, it feels like taking a dive into the past. It is very small and is made up of a main room and a slightly smaller adjoining one: being a table of 15 people we blocked the main room, this enhanced the experience by giving that sense of intimacy. Marcello (the manager) is very kind as well as friendly and good company. The food is really genuine, home-made, as if you were going to eat at the house of an aunt/grandmother who is very good at cooking. The typical Calabrian experience is an experience that I recommend to everyone.
