Ristorante Tancredi In Sirmione

A wonderful experience with great service and incredible views. But the food for this price point was just a little off. Nevertheless, I would still recommend it because if you're in that area, which is crowded as can be, this restaurant feels like a respite, and the service was impeccable. Could also be a great spot for just splitting a bottle of wine.

The visit begins with a delicious sparkling tea and an instrumental version of Bowie’s „Major Tom,” along with a fantastic view of the nearly stormy Lake Garda. A promising start. On to the food (My subjective opinion! The rating is based on the expectations I have for a restaurant in this category and at this price point. +/0/– should be self-explanatory): The first three appetizers are a bit of a letdown. The flavors are okay and the presentation is nice—all variations on purée—but only the last red praline really piques the palate’s interest. (-) I booked the 6-course „Ghost” surprise menu when I made the reservation and I’m sticking with it. At 145 EUR, the menu seems very affordable before it starts, I’m curious to see how it turns out in the end. As an amuse-bouche, a small bowl arrives with peas, herb broth, and a squid praline. Very delicate, the acidity and slight bitterness are convincing (0) „It was a nice start”—“Was it a good start?”—“It was a nice start”—and even that’s a bit of a stretch. The meal begins with stuffed eggplant. I’m not a fan of the vegetable, its texture, which I find unpleasant, comes through in full force—the dish fails to win me over. Thank god, it will be the only letdown in the main menu (-) Next comes a trio of scallops—the joint of the shell, at least that’s how I understand it, and I could have done without that, but there’s also a croquette with scallop meat as well as a great carpaccio in a herb broth and scallop sorbet, which was refined with shrimp. Interesting, no great (0+ without regarding the joints) Naturally, a risotto is a classic part of an Italian menu, this one as well and in many cases it is a wear and a bit boring dish. Not here – Tancredi’s is very creative—cooked in fish stock and topped with a Gillardeau oyster, plus a generous dusting of lovage powder—it smelled very intense (I was skeptical) but tasted wonderful (0+) Where there’s risotto, pasta can’t be far behind, the next dish features linguine—cooked in mushroom broth. Accompanied by a few pieces of monkfish and nduja, a spicy raw sausage from Calabria. On a small plate alongside it, a croquette with the same ingredients but an exponentially more intense flavor (0-) The meat course features lamb. And the plate is just as it should be—in line with my favorite motto for meat dishes: less is more. A perfectly cooked (though unfortunately somewhat small) cut from the loin. A few drops of jus and a bit of potato gratin—that’s it—delicious (0) After a fine pre-dessert (oat brittle with oat milk and lavender), dessert arrives—more of a combination of several chocolate petit fours on a plate (official title: Chocolate and its supply chain, chocolate sorbet, Dulcey cream puffs, chocolate meringue, and magic cake in three textures)—not bad, but there could have been some fruity component to balance out the chocolates (0-)... After that, there are actually three more petit fours, and then the meal is over, though not the still-interesting conversations with the sommelier. Which brings me to the service overall—which was outstanding throughout the evening that flew by—the menu lasts barely 2.5 hours. Informative, humorous, interesting—thank you! Which gets me back to the beginning – the price of the menu. All in all, I had 10 courses—all of them, except for the artichoke, at Michelin-star level—so 145 EUR is a bargain—and the restaurant highly recommended. See you next time – looking forward to it

Tancredi is an absolute favorite in Sirmione. Amazing food, great vibe, and very friendly service. Honestly, it’s hard to find anything better around Lake Garda. A must-visit if you’re in the area!”
