Ristorante Manna In Milano

For me, Manna is one of the best restaurants in Milan, and I'm incredibly happy to have it practically on my doorstep. It's one of those places where you always try something surprising. The dishes are creative, but never made just to impress: they're flavorful, balanced, and the kind you keep thinking about the next day. I also love the fact that the chef personally visits each table to take your order and explain the dishes. It makes you feel welcome and adds something to the experience. The service is always kind and attentive, without being forced. A place I always love returning to and recommend to anyone who truly loves good food.

We had high expectations because we'd been wanting to try it for a while. The dishes were satisfying, but I wouldn't consider them memorable. The waiters were punctual and knowledgeable. What left us a bit surprised, and the reason we won't be returning, is that after ordering, we were offered "samples" of a first and second course of our choice. Only when we got the bill did we discover that these "samples" cost about half the price on the menu. We might have ordered them anyway, but we found it unfair that they were offered to us as "samples" of other dishes, without warning that they were extras. What a shame.

The dishes are always top-notch, and the wine recommendations are excellent. Compared to recent visits, I think the quality of the service has dropped a bit.

My better half says, "Write one of your brainless reviews." I ask her if Manna really needs me to write my nonsense. Maybe yes, maybe no, but I've been waiting for ten years for the right opportunity to come to this place, which is more than a restaurant. It's a place of permanent resistance (see the strobe light in the bathroom, designed with more brainpower than most parliamentary decrees). It's a menu of kindnesses that you find on your plate even if you choose junk food. It's the obero (a reuse of pride and dedication) of the leader of the pack who teaches, personally takes your orders, finishes the dishes, and asks you how it's going. Then you eat, look at the open table with a crater in the middle, and enjoy. But enough of that. Let's go back.
