Just a little bit further away from the hustle and bustle with throbbing streets of people this gem of a restaurant did us proud with local dishes prepared perfectly . For starters we ate Suppli ( like Arrancini ) Red rice stuffed with shrimp and a chickpea cream , calamari stew with Nudja and a small troffie pasta . Then swordfish with caponatini . Lemon sorbet on the house .
What a treat , a must go 💯
Our evening costs were €120 including a tip , we had a zero beer and an April Spritz and a glass of white wine and a bottle of sparking water. All up a very reasonable priced evening . We will return .

The food is ok. Not the best we had in Ortigia, but decent. I also think they need to work on the presentation of the dishes. My steak looked like a children’s meal, swimming in sauce with what looked like store bought fries.
The sauce for the ravioli and the steak was unbalanced and too sweet in my opinion.
The acoustics of the room is off, too noisy.

The Retroscena restaurant in Syracuse is an authentic culinary jewel that offers a gastronomic experience that combines tradition and innovation in a sublime way. The menu is a celebration of Sicilian flavours, revisited with creativity and mastery. The staff is incredibly welcoming and professional, and the atmosphere of the place is intimate and refined. I highly recommend ordering the caponata con toma and the risotto, which were mind-blowing.

Beautiful family run place. I think this is their strength because they bring together passion, care and attention towards customers as if they were family. Excellent quality dishes, excellent wine list but the care towards the customer is what struck me most. Thanks for the beautiful dinner

Don’t hand out 5 stars as freely as some reviewers but the food here was amazing. Recommended to go here by our apartment host and so glad he did. The cuisine was simply sublime. Best pasta we have ever tasted. Service was great, we ate here twice and would have again if we had the chance. Spaghetti with pecorino cheese, walnut and pear is not be missed nor the ravioli with pistachio sauce.

This was our first fine dining experience in Sicily and we were very happy that we chose Retroscena. The staff were friendly and professional. The atmosphere pleasant. The food was outstanding! Don’t miss an opportunity to eat here.
