The location is quaint and pleasant, but the welcome upon entry needs updating. The waiters seem to have stumbled upon the place by chance, and the service is slow and chaotic...long waits between courses. The wine list doesn't reflect the availability...we chose a 2022 vintage, but they actually brought us the same wine, but from 2024...when we pointed this out, the waiter couldn't explain, other than that the 2022 vintage was "perhaps" sold out. The cured meats are good, but the rest could be better. The prices are excessive considering the wait and the inaccurate service.

Amazing place. The interior seems frozen in time, a dive into the past where everything was tranquil. The food is excellent, and the staff is up to par. We were there for a party and the entire restaurant was booked, and it's perfect for these occasions. With the various rooms, everyone has their own space without disturbing or creating confusion, but still allowing everyone to be together. Beautiful!

We visited the Osteria dello Sportello in Casteldilago for two important occasions: a baptism celebration and, the second time, a luncheon celebration for a friend's 50th birthday. On both occasions, we also spent the night in the apartments of the Osteria's multi-building hotel. The hamlet of Casteldilago is located a stone's throw from the Marmore Falls and a few kilometers from Lake Piediluco, which feeds them. It is a small Umbrian village, known as "Castello" because it is perched on a hill. It is characteristic and beautifully restored, and deserves to be explored. THE RESTAURANT reflects the authenticity of the place: in an ancient noble building entirely in exposed stone and with several rooms of different sizes, some on staggered levels, the antique wooden coffered ceilings lend a great medieval charm to the simple atmosphere. I'll focus on the final celebration. There were about seventy of us, spread across long tables throughout the restaurant. The service was impeccable despite the number and diversity of the diners. The cuisine offers high-quality traditional local (and other) products, which I personally found impeccable on the palate. There are also some innovative touches, and the plating of some dishes (the pork tenderloin and dessert, for example) is meticulous and not second to that of more prestigious establishments. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos, but those in other comments can attest to my observations. There's no shortage of additional spaces. We were able to celebrate until midnight in another space located outside the Osteria, inside the village. The building is spread over three levels and is also used as a small museum, preserving fragments of local daily life dating back to around 1300 (Deruta crockery and similar items, some of which still need to be reassembled) discovered during the restoration. For the occasion, an open bar was set up on the first floor and a ballroom on the ground floor. Equipped with bathrooms and a kitchen, it served as the meeting point for breakfast the next day for the entire group. The hospitality of the apartments we stayed in on both occasions was ideal for the logistics of the celebrations. The apartments are renovated and equipped with kitchens, making them ideal for spending a few days on site and exploring. If you haven't already understood, we were all thrilled with the party, and personally, having the opportunity to get closer to those roots in Cascia, in the province of Perugia, I will certainly return. A new and wonderful experience, not just food and wine, awaits me.

I was blown away by this place, which I discovered thanks to a friend who took us there. The atmosphere is intimate and private, with soft lighting and low conversation volume thanks to proper distancing and the right number of tables. The quality of the food and service is very high. I would gladly return. It was a very pleasant evening.

I love this restaurant, with its many small rooms, very intimate. The food is very good and unique, starting with a small aperitif, and the menu is always varied.

Girarrosto del Buongustaio

06/01/2026: A family-run restaurant with a wood-fired oven, not far from Orvieto. A great way to explore the surrounding area and start the year off right.

07/03/2026: Excellent food, perfect service, a great atmosphere, and a wonderful surprise: ancient Roman caves in the basement and a delightful patio. Large frescoed rooms and an internal courtyard reminiscent of a medieval Italian patio. Beautiful location, we often return for lunch or dinner. The dishes are delicious. Very clean. Large spaces, suitable for groups, or a romantic balcony for couples. Must try.
01/02/2026: To visit a dear friend, my partner and I went to Otricoli and had lunch at this trattoria. It's a 16th-century building beneath which lies a very evocative pre-Roman cave. The staff is very kind and welcoming, and the menu is a mix of tradition and experimentation, featuring local products and a focus on vegetarians. As for the food, everything was exceptional, from appetizers to desserts. I had the memorable stuffed agnolotti, with a unique flavor that won me over. I would personally recommend this dish to anyone who wants to try this place. My partner, however, highly recommends the chickpea and spinach croquettes, with their homemade mayonnaise. For dessert, Giorgia's tiramisu is truly unforgettable. If you're passing through, this trattoria is a must-try.
