This restaurant specializes in seafood, offering very high quality, original recipes, and excellent value for money at lunchtime. It's more expensive in the evening, but the quality remains excellent. The staff is very friendly.

Il Guscio pitches itself at the city’s gastronome. The front-of-house is sharply put together waistcoats and jeans and deft at providing recommendations. The bread basket: dark nut bread and focaccia, tasty, but light of artisanal. The "tasting of cheese starters" is the high point: aubergine grilled in light olive oil with pecorino, artichokes in a light creamy cheese sauce - sweet, rich, melt-in-the-mouth, a tartlet of melted hard cheese on aubergine purée with tomato salsa, and a sheep's-cheese parcel with balsamic that had real character. The sequence is clever - the whole lands close to perfection. Seafood was generous, varied, and would have been encouraged with gentler handling. Dessert was "baked strawberries" of warm jammy fruit, but pastry was tipped off-balance by a hint of lard.

A magnificent experience! From the homemade vermouth while waiting for a table – make a reservation! – (we ended up buying a bottle to take home), to the entire meal: pure bliss.
The pear and gorgonzola risotto was perfect, as was the tagliata with green peppercorns and rosemary, followed by the sage and candied orange crème brûlée. A very good wine list, too. Superb atmosphere, simply perfect 🙏

We had our best lunch in Florence here. Authentic local restaurant with some modern twist. This is not your regular touristic restaurant with same generic mediocre dishes, this is actually a real restaurant with great food, reasonable prices and amazing wine menu.

A truly superb dinner at il Guscio, on the Oltrarno side of Firenze.
Starters: fried carciofi with stracciatella, cinghiale prosciutto, and puff pastry with robiola, a zucchini flan, & baked scamorza cheese.
Pastas: pappardelle with rabbit ragù & black olives, paccheri with n’duja, cherry tomatoes & burrata, risotto with Gorgonzola.
Main course: veal cheek in a red wine sauce with mashed potatoes and escarole & olives.
We also had an excellent bottle of Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
My family has been coming to this restaurant for years and it remains one of my favorites.
