We are in the beautiful Caffè San Marco, but damn they should AT LEAST put extractor fans in the bathrooms

We visited this café during our stay and were delighted. My wife and I each ordered a coffee with hot chocolate and cream, which was absolutely delicious – wonderfully creamy, aromatic, and perfectly prepared. I also tried a traditional vanilla pastry filled with a generous amount of fresh vanilla cream. It was incredibly tasty, fresh, and just the right balance of sweet and creamy. My wife opted for a shortbread cookie, which, although rather small, was absolutely delicious. The quality of the food and drinks was excellent, and you can tell that freshness and flavor are paramount here. We would definitely return and highly recommend this café.

A bit dated, the furniture is missing its varnish and the benches are worn out. The staff isn't in a hurry and can easily keep themselves occupied even without guests. Sit back, soak it all in, and enjoy. Simply relax and enjoy yourself.

I highly recommend visiting late evening (they close at 22:30) and enjoying a Trieste Espresso Martini. We also visited during the late afternoon for coffee and cake but found the service to be a little more rushed and impersonal.

A lovely old café, dating back to around 1915. It's a bit off the beaten path, so it can be a little quieter at times. They offer interesting dishes, including vegetarian options, and delicious cakes. A top-notch café, as you'd expect in Trieste! Not cheap, but reasonably priced, especially for a city. I'd gladly return.

It's a place worth visiting just for the experience. The coffee was served cold; maybe Italians drink it that way, but it was cold and unsuitable for Turkish tastes.

15/12/2025: 5 out of 5 stars for everything! Location, setting, food, presentation, and the friendliness and kindness of the staff (a very important factor). All the dishes were excellent, their quality and presentation, and the empathy of the waiter (alas, I don't remember his name) who recommended the traditional biscuits with Marsala wine to finish our meal. This is a place where they make you feel at home, sitting at a table with friends. My husband and I will definitely return to this wonderful place.
