Osteria del Bramante
Roccaverano
13/01/2026: Not like other times, the cheese platter was poor and the gnocchi weren't very tasty. The bill was a bit too high.
07/01/2026: Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to try their food—and I'm sure it's excellent, otherwise there's no way they can get such high ratings.
Terrible organization, but what's worse: profoundly rude.
Tuesday, January 6th, Epiphany. We decide to take a trip an hour and a half from home, to Roccaverano. We make a reservation at the Bramante restaurant, attracted by the rave reviews. Over the phone, we specifically ask if it's possible for two people to have lunch with a large dog. We often travel with our large dog—very good, but obviously demanding—and we always ask first, clarifying everything transparently and bringing her rug to avoid any disturbances.
Once we arrive, we discover that no one knew anything about our reservation with a dog. The lady who welcomes us—visibly annoyed from the first moment—informs us that "there are customers in the dining room who don't want dogs." We calmly remind her that we had made this clear when we booked. But she, increasingly indisposed, cuts him short: "There are nine of us, I don't know anything about it, and I don't know where to put you."
Then the epiphany: she offers us a table "at the bar downstairs."
All right, we adapt. But the scene continues in a melancholy little room with three tables. As we try to settle in, the lady keeps reiterating—in an annoyed tone—that she knew nothing about it, almost as if we had invented the reservation. No apology, no sign of courtesy: just the expectation that we should understand her discomfort. The final gem: "And what do I do if another table of five arrives that doesn't want a dog?"
At that point, we stood up, put our jackets back on, and left.
The attempts of others (managers? relatives? owners?) who tried to hold us back were futile: "No, stay!"—as if the problem was ours and not their attitude.
You ruined our Epiphany.
By then it was too late to find anything else, so we took refuge in a pizzeria—where at least they greeted us with a smile.
To do this job, you need two things: passion for food and respect for people. I imagine they have a lot of the former; none of the latter. I wouldn't go back even if they offered me lunch.
As an economist once said, a monopoly always works to the detriment of the consumer. Perhaps being "the restaurant, hotel, shop, and wine bar" of Roccaverano allows them to feel above politeness.
A simple "sorry, we made a mistake" would have at least saved their professionalism. But not even that.
The behavior of the lady in the dining room was terrible, and above all unacceptable—more suited, I fear, to the role of a stern barracks guard than to hospitality.
In short: a place that is not pet-friendly. And, in our experience, not even human-friendly.
Too bad
