La rotonda ristorante di pesce

06/07/2024: The restaurant is very well looked after, the atmosphere is formal and the service is good. The staff are friendly and helpful, but that's where the good things stop. The menu seems interesting, the result of culinary experimentation that would justify the prices. But in reality the flavors are a mindless jumble of unrelated ingredients. I took a prawn tartare with truffle, but the latter was so predominant that it completely covered the taste of the fish. We also had a raw dish. The quality of the fish was good, but for example on the tuna tartare there was a cheap Chinese restaurant soy sauce. For the second course we opted for tuna in a crust on celery gazpacho and olive oil ice cream. The combination was inedible. The ice cream was sweet and sickening, the breaded fish like frozen food. There was very little gazpacho in that celery smoothie. Disappointed, I sought comfort in a plate of baked potatoes. Those weren't up to par either. Canteen dish, reheated and soggy. The restaurant has an impressive wine list, but I don't know which of these courses can be paired with a bottle of champagne or French wine costing 150 to 300 euros. You don't understand the target customers you are addressing. We would have gladly spent the amount of dinner (120 euros) for studied and well-calibrated dishes. Haute cuisine cannot be improvised, customers are left disappointed and at this point it is better to eat in an honest and unpretentious trattoria.
30/06/2024: I ristoranti come La Rotonda mi lasciano perplesso. Sarà che siamo subissati da chef televisivi e ci propongono sempre più spesso piatti adatti ad una mostra (per l'estetica fine a se stessa) ma non a stare su una normale tavola. Non si capisce bene a che tipo di clientela sia diretto il locale. Dentro é accogliente, il personale cortese e si sta bene ma le note positive finiscono qui. Per quale motivo? Perché il tipo di cucina presentato appare assai distante da ciò che ti aspetteresti a pochi metri dal mare e dai lidi trebisaccesi. Un antipasto con crudità si può dire riuscito con 3 gamberi, un'ostrica, una tartara? Uno spaghetto di gragnano, serve come primo se é ridotto ad una forchettata in un piatto enorme? I ravioli di baccalà sarebbero anche buoni ma con un vero SUGHETTO DI MARE e non semplicemente appoggiati su una di crema frullata da una cipolla. I sapori? Totalmente slegati. La cernia della secca di Amendolara é deliziosa ma é pur vero che parliamo di un bocconcino che sta dentro un cucchiaio. Mi pare un po' poco per uscire soddisfatti. Forse occorre mangiare prima? Per quale motivo si va al ristorante se devi spendere tanto e uscire con i crampi allo stomaco per la fame?

07/08/2024: I honestly expected something really interesting, but that wasn't the case. Good appetizer. The fish-based first courses were also good, although there were two of us and one of the two first courses arrived 3 or 4 minutes later. This is not done. the linguine with seafood, mussels and clams were already shelled, this gives rise to doubts that they were not fresh, and then the taste of this dish is also that of "fishing" in the pasta and removing the molluscs from their shells. the plating of paccheri with swordfish was fabulous, see attached photo, this perhaps wasted some time, but the Chef must be good at calculating the preparation times to synchronize the release. As a second course we had a mixed fry. The doubts about not fresh but frozen fish have been dispelled by this frying. He was frozen. The prawns don't peel well and they weren't cleaned well. The "black thread" must be removed, that is the "intestine" The frying was very, very heavy, you could taste too much oil and the fish, a little too salty, did not have a pleasant taste. Summer, sea area famous for good fishing, medium-high prices, I was expecting fresh fish, many things with great expectations not repaid. The service, prepared and good waiter but takes some things too much for granted. Paid too much for a product... It's a restaurant/pizzeria, why is there a dessert counter with scales at the entrance?

11/08/2024: Everything is excellent, especially the fish dishes, not to mention the sea view, but lately it seems that prices have increased a bit.
