Shalai Restaurant

01/12/2025: We stayed at this property last weekend. I'll start with what I liked. The Shalai is a finely renovated late 19th-century building, elegant and welcoming. The strong points are definitely the restaurant and the kindness of the staff. It also has a spa, which, although small, is still usable and enjoyable.
The downside, at least in our experience, was the rooms. We had a superior double room: nice, but not excellent value for money. Although it was reasonably spacious, the bathroom was not up to par with the rest of the property, especially since the shower curtain was dated and unhygienic, unlike even one-star hotels these days. Here's a tip for the property: the property is amazing, the staff is a plus, the spa is delightful, and the restaurant is top-notch, but please, remove those curtains.
27/10/2025: Didn't stay at the hotel but had dinner in the restaurant.
Where do I start with this one? This place has a Michelin star, and, not long after you take your seat, you'll understand why. The ambience is perfect, and the staff are amazing.
We went for wine pairings, and they worked flawlessly. The sommelier was not just incredibly knowledgeable about wine (as you'd expect) but also very playful and friendly. We had a few nice interactions as the meal progressed.
The whole experience was perfect from end to end, and for us it set a very high bar for restaurants in Sicily. I would visit again in a heartbeat.

08/10/2025: I've been a customer for many years, and I'm usually willing to travel 35 km there and back to enjoy their arancini.
I recommend trying their pastry shop and cafeteria, but especially their delicious arancini!!
I love Sicilian pastry shops and cafeterias, but their arancini are, in my opinion, the best and freshest in the entire province!!
I also recommend trying their delicious gelato and granitas in the summer.
I recommend this bar to everyone!!
And a special thanks to the owners and their families.

09/01/2026: I wish I’d heard of this restaurant earlier in our trip as I would have dined here more regularly. The pork cheek was one of the tastiest dishes I’ve ever consumed. The service was courteous and efficient and I’d highly recommend a visit here.

31/12/2025: A well-maintained restaurant, easy access, lots of meat, and a wide variety of cured meats. This is a very greasy sandwich, not suitable for children. Definitely expensive, so check the prices carefully. Service is not very organized.

Rifugio Ragabo Ristorante Pizzeria

05/01/2026: A piece of Etna's history ruined. Management to forget.
It's truly sad to see how a historic place like the Rifugio Ragabo has sunk so low. We returned with wonderful memories, ready to enjoy the typical Sicilian hospitality, but what we found was a nightmare.
The welcome? Nonexistent. Upon our arrival, there was nothing, until the owner, a person of rare rudeness, showed up. I dared to pet the refuge dog and was literally assaulted with a sharp "NO" and brusque manner. When we politely requested two hot chocolates, the lady practically confined us to another room with an annoyed attitude, as if our presence were a nuisance.
The quality of the service is embarrassing:
Poor hygiene: Dirty tables and bathrooms in appalling conditions.
Absent service: No menus at the table (you have to get up and go to the cashier) and zero table service.
Poor quality: The hot chocolate was objectively undrinkable, almost nauseating. On top of that, we were charged a 50-cent surcharge for a pinch of cinnamon. An insult.
Despite the dog roaming freely around the place, the atmosphere is cold and hostile. The only positive note is the fireplace, but a fire isn't enough to warm an environment made unlivable by totally inadequate and uneducated management.
This has nothing to do with the warmth of our land. Shame.
05/01/2026: I've been several times and have always had a great experience. The cuisine is simple, not a lot of choices, but what they do is done well, plentiful and fast. The staff is friendly, and the price isn't particularly high for the quality.
The place is cozy and well-heated, and if you happen to go when it's snowing, it's truly a treat.
Recommended for those who love simple things done well.

03/01/2026: We ordered three pizzas (pinzas, to be precise). It was 7:30 PM. They arrived after about 40 minutes. They were lukewarm! We asked for them to reheat them. They did, but they were almost charred. I recommend changing the pizza chef.
18/12/2025: Great pizza! Really tasty and really nice personell working there. They were sweet and made a pizza with the ingredients I asked for. Maybe not the nicest place to sit but we had takeaway and ate at the hotel.

08/01/2026: I've had the opportunity to eat at the Monte Conca Restaurant several times and have always been thrilled. The staff are welcoming, the food is excellent, and the view is breathtaking. It's an excellent choice for those who want to escape the daily grind and relax in the fresh air.
05/01/2026: I didn't have lunch, but I did use the bar. The sausage roll was pre-made and reheated, but the bread wasn't exactly fresh. There's no table service. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The restrooms are poorly maintained, which is a shame.

Ho aspettato più di mezz’ora per ordinare e più di un’ora per i primi piatti.
Ho deciso di disdire il secondo piatto di carne per la troppa attesa.
Ce ne siamo andati amareggiati col sapore della salsa ancora in bocca.
Mai più.

01/05/2025: Lo si sceglie se si vuole la certezza di mangiare bene. Locale sempre carino, accogliente e molto molto pulito.
La qualità della cucina è di prim’ordine, con piatti ricercati e mai banali, valorizzati dall’accostamento alla cucina locale, del buonissimo tartufo.
Servizio e professionalità sempre ai massimi livelli.
16/04/2025: Huiselijk restaurant met heerlijk eten. Alles was perfect, de pasta, het vlees, de vis en de beste desserts. Aanrader voor wie in de buurt van de Etna verblijft.
