10/11/2025: Our €540 disappointment at a two-Michelin-star restaurant that values friends over guests
We spent €540 at what’s ranked the world’s 16th-best restaurant, expecting a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Instead, we endured three hours of nonstop barking from a dog belonging to friends of the owner — during what was supposed to be a special dinner celebrating our first child, due in February.
We had the first seating on October 27 (reservation under Howard). About ten minutes after doors opened, a group of six arrived with a small dog. It barked repeatedly throughout the meal, loud enough for every table to notice. My husband approached staff three times, and each time the message was clear: because these guests were connected to the owner, the rules didn’t apply. Staff even admitted there’s a no-dog policy but that this group was an exception. Their justifications kept changing — first they “didn’t know” a dog was coming, then it was supposedly a “therapy” dog.
We later wrote management privately, hoping for an apology or acknowledgment. Instead, they downplayed everything — claiming the dog barked “only three times” and suggesting our complaint was about “chewing.” Their email completely distorted the events and denied the obvious favoritism we witnessed.
For a restaurant with two Michelin stars, this level of dishonesty and disregard for paying guests is shocking. The night we looked forward to most on our trip became the one we most wanted to forget. Outstanding food means little when the management shows zero respect or accountability.
08/11/2025: I contacted management before leaving this review and they refused to address the issue. Here’s my review:
Picture this: you spend €540 at the world’s 16th-best restaurant, two Michelin stars, and sit through three hours of nonstop dog barking while staff admit the owner’s friends get a free “no dogs” pass.
That happened to us on October 27. My pregnant wife and I flew across the ocean and built our Italy trip around this dinner, a gift to celebrate our first child due in February. We booked the first seating under Howard. Ten minutes after opening, a group of six arrives with a small dog. It barks the entire night. Every table looks over.
I spoke to staff three times. Their answers: they know the owner, they drove 200 km (we flew thousands), we will not ask the dog to leave, and yes, there is a no-dog policy. The dog stayed. The barking never stopped. Also, their story switched from “we didn’t know the dog was coming” to “they told us it was a therapy dog before they came.”
We emailed management for an apology. Their reply rewrote history: the dog barked “only three times”, “in a very feeble way,” and our real issue was the dog’s “chewing?????”. Also, them knowing the dog wasnt coming was a lie. Complete lies. It barked over a dozen times, loud enough to turn heads across the room. No vest, no service-animal status, just “pet therapy” for friends of the owner. They claim no other guest complained. More fiction. They didn’t offer us anything at all to make the situation better.
Management ignored facts, gaslit us, and doubled down on favoritism. The night we planned as our trip’s highlight became its low point. Two Michelin stars, zero integrity.

08/07/2025: Sinceramente mi aspettavo molto di più per essere un ristorante stellato... Sia per quanto riguarda il menù...niente di ecclatante...anzi su una decina di piatti diversi ne salvo uno/due ...sia per quanto riguarda il servizio... troppo invadente e troppo amichevole......un maitre di un ristorante stellato dovrebbe avere un modo di fare più distaccato....dovrebbe essere cordiale, gentile, disponibile, preparato e soprattutto non dovrebbe permettersi certe battute da taverna di paese......insomma a parte la vista sul nostro bellissimo Lago di Garda sicuramente non avrei motivo per ritornare a cena al Ristorante Fagiano...non posso fare valutazioni sull'hotel perché siamo andati appositamente per cenare al Fagiano....
01/07/2025: Il ristorante Il Fagiano del Grand Hotel Fasano è molto più di una semplice cena: è un viaggio sensoriale straordinario in una cornice da sogno.
La location è impareggiabile: affacciata direttamente sul lago, con una vista mozzafiato e un’atmosfera raffinata ma mai eccessivamente formale. Il servizio è impeccabile: discreto, professionale, ma sempre attento e cordiale. Ti senti davvero accolto e coccolato in ogni momento.
Il menù è una sinfonia di sapori, equilibrio e creatività. Ogni piatto è un piccolo capolavoro, curato nei minimi dettagli sia nella presentazione che nel gusto. Si percepisce chiaramente la passione e la tecnica dello chef Maurizio Bufi , che riesce a valorizzare ogni ingrediente con eleganza e originalità.
La carta dei vini è ampia e ben selezionata, con ottimi suggerimenti in abbinamento da parte del sommelier, sempre disponibile ma mai invadente.
Un’esperienza perfetta dall’inizio alla fine. Se cercate un ristorante dove vivere un momento speciale, Il Fagiano è una tappa obbligata. Complimenti sinceri a tutta la squadra per l’eccellenza offerta. Torneremo sicuramente.
