Trattoria Saltimbocca da Giancarlo In Catania

Super friendly staff and delicious seafood. We had baked breaded balls and fried anchovies? as starters, the grouper for main course and we shared a lemon tart for dessert. Everything was excellent.

The food was excellent, but the octopus was so tough you almost broke your teeth. The marinated shrimp were very good. The pasta alla Norma was really good, but I left a third of the beef fillet because the meat was sinewy and stringy, although the flavor was very good and the meat was juicy. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. They didn't seem at all interested in us, even though we were practically the only customers. No one asked if we liked the food. The waiter brought the first course when the table hadn't yet been cleared after the appetizer. The staff dragged the tables and placed them next to us, making a lot of noise. We felt like intruders and lost interest in dessert. Maybe it was just a bad day, or maybe they don't like tourists...

I wish I could find the best words to describe how great we had at this trattoria, which we'd just discovered, but they'd be too limiting. You have to go and experience it! I also wanted to post photos of the various dishes they brought us here, but... we devoured everything without thinking about Instagram shots, thinking only of the deliciousness and freshness of what we were savoring. Well, I only took one photo: a spectacular fried fish dish, with giant, meaty red mullet and scallops. I've never seen anything like it! The owner welcomed us so kindly, and offered us pasta with anchovies and fennel, Catania-style, and homemade rice crispelle, delicious! The entire staff was truly kind and attentive. I felt like I was staying with a relative. After years of wandering around seafood restaurants and trattorias, I think I've found the perfect place, the one I'll always return to, and the one I'll definitely bring my parents too. We discovered Saltimbocca da Giancarlo partly by chance and partly thanks to the excellent reviews online, and we can say it was a wonderful discovery! Located in the heart of Catania, this seafood restaurant immediately captivates with its simple and welcoming atmosphere: it's a very down-to-earth, informal place, where you're greeted with a smile and a warmth that makes you feel instantly at home. We ate divinely. The raw fish appetizers were incredibly fresh and carefully prepared; the marinara risotto and the peppered mussels were truly excellent, full of flavor and perfectly balanced. To conclude, the house desserts were a real surprise: all homemade, from the warm tart to the babà with cream, to the lemon cake, delicious and authentic. A special thanks goes to Giancarlo and his son Filippo, wonderful people who, along with their staff, make the experience even more enjoyable with their kindness and helpfulness. We absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good seafood and authenticity. We'll definitely be back, because we had a great time and the food is truly top-notch! Cute trattoria with indoor and outdoor seating a little outside the main thoroughfare of Catania. Loved the neighborhoody vibe, the fish on display, and the service of the wait staff and Giancarlo. The fried calamari was some of the best I've ever had. Light, delicate fried coating with a robust salt flavor. The pasta dishes were also great, with the pasta alla vongole standing out the most. Definitely check it out for some seafood and pasta

Questo posto ci è stato consigliato dal mio, unico, pescivendolo di fiducia. È una trattoria quindi non ci si aspetta forse una qualità cosi alta del pesce invece è stata una piacevolissima sorpresa, al pari o anche superiore di altri ristoranti di pesce blasonati. Siamo amanti del pesce fresco e lo cucino diverse volte a settimana, motivo per cui, trovare un buon ristorante di pesce non sempre è facile per noi. L’esperienza con questo ristorante è stata eccellente, pesce buonissimo, cucinato a regola d’arte, giuste quantità e prezzi onesti. Gamberi, scampi e spada crudi buonissimi, frittura asciuttissima con vero pesce e veri calamari freschi, ostriche strapiene, involtini di spada e di alici davvero squisiti, sembravano caramelline, insalata di polpo SUPERLATIVA, polpo morbido e ben condito. Il proprietario, il signor Giancarlo, disponibile, mai invadente, pronto a darti i giusti consigli, rapido in servizio. Ci torneremo presto. Che altro dire, straconsigliato.
