Lost flavors are rediscovered. I ate the best fish stockfish and belly that you could ask for in the Messina square. Typical cuisine, generous portions, first choice products cooked grandmother style. Today was the first time and I plan to go back as soon as possible.

It is an ancient tavern, where the tablecloths are red checked and the owners are friendly. A place so typical that you can't visit Messina without going to Don Nino. They specialize in Messina-style stockfish, but I also recommend the pasta alla norma and the stuffed calamari.

During my lunch break I was today, 18/9/2023 in this trattoria "Don Nino" on Viale Europa, a little anonymous from the outside as it always seems closed and for this reason some potential customers could be deceived by this sensation, but which is actually active and really nice inside where I found a simple restaurant-like decor which in my opinion was spot on and which even if it dates back to decades ago seems newly furnished and gives a feeling of warmth, simplicity and family style which doesn't hurt, and in fact from what I understand it is a family run restaurant open every day except Sunday from 12pm to 3pm and in the evening it is closed, the house specialty is typical Sicilian dishes and above all the stockfish that they cook every day and in many ways, and I, who am fond of stockfish, ordered the latter cooked in many variations such as stockfish meatballs, splits a ghiotta (red) and stockfish delicious (red) to drink half a liter of house white wine, and at the end of the culinary immersion with quality and well cooked raw materials I got up satisfied with the conviction of repeating the experience perhaps tasting other dishes as soon as possible, owner and kind and prompt staff, I forgot to compliment the chef but I'll do it now, in conclusion I recommend trying the "Don Nino" restaurant in the center of Messina because you will be pleasantly surprised.
