The Life Bistrot - Plant Based Restaurant - Archaeological Site In Volterra

The photo is not an empty plate, but a brushed one. Yes, because in this restaurant you will eat the best things in the universe. The carrot and leek velouté is worth crying over. Delicate, tasty. The pici are spectacular, the risottos unusual but fabulous. This place is a delight for the palate and the mind. The owner is a person who knows how to entertain and help diners in choosing dishes. Trust me, come to this restaurant again and again to try everything. You won't regret it. It deserves 10 stars out of 5 because it exceeds all expectations.

Honestly, I really wanted to love this place. I’m vegan and was thrilled to see a vegan restaurant in Tuscany, particularly considering how amazing the produce is here. But the food, with one exception, was… okay. The chapati starter came with whole wheat pita, emphatically not chapati. The gnocchi and pizza were fine, nothing special and certainly nothing special in Italy. The cheese on the chef’s board (21€) was indeed delicious, unfortunately the only memorable thing that we ate, and the board generally kind of disjointed. Nothing on the menu seemed as fresh vegetable forward as I would have expected. Most of it was vegan equivalents of Italian classics, such as pizza and pasta, which needs to be executed very well to be impressive. I would’ve been happier with a nice salad with the vegan cheese. It’s too bad, because the owners were clearly passionate and provided great service, and Tuscan cuisine/ingredients can lend themselves to amazing vegan food. I admit that I am spoiled as a vegan in a major North American city, but this was distinctly okay. Particularly given that we were in Italy, it was sadly a letdown.

A beautiful surprise! It's nice to see people carrying out projects like this with so much passion and dedication to their land and their values. We had two tasting menus and were pleasantly surprised. The pea, strawberry and almond risotto is highly recommended! Impeccable service. We hope to return soon!

Beautiful place in the center of Volterra. Simple and tasty dishes! Welcoming and approachable staff. The glass floor from which you can see the Roman findings is amazing. I will definitely return when I'm in the area to enjoy the winter menu. The menu is completely cruelty-free and there are plenty of gluten-free or convertible options.

Such a nice restaurant, with nice owners with attention to detail. A small but fine menu, well prepared food. We would love to go back there again and again.

Joyas escondidas en Volterra (y en Italia). El lugar perfecto para un vegano para llevar no veganos para comer. No se sentirán decepcionados, solo asombrados y encantados. Enrico, el propietario, es increíble - - un placer conocerlo y escuchar su historia.

Uno di quei posti che ti rallegrano la giornata. Locale al top in ogni minimo dettaglio, a partire dal servizio: arrivate a pranzo un’ora dopo rispetto la prenotazione siamo state accolte in modo ineccepibile, massima cortesia e professionalità nel descrivere accuratamente tutti i piatti del menù. Pietanze veramente molto buone, con ingredienti plant based e di provenienza locale. Consiglio gli gnocchi fatti a mano al pomodoro leggermente piccante, il fritto di verdure in pastella di ceci ma sopratutto il dolce, tortino caldo di arance, carote e mandorle! Prezzi molto onesti per la qualità del servizio e del cibo proposto. Da tornarci sicuramente!
