Royal Gourmet In Varenna

If you are doing a trip to Lake Como and this hotel works within your budget, BOOK IT NOW. From research it seemed like Varenna was the best place to stay, and I can confirm it definitely was. As far as where to stay in Varenna itself, you can’t beat this location. Easy walk to all the main sights, restaurants, and transportation options. Beyond location, the hotel itself was perfection. Stunning views and photo ops, incredible staff, it was clean, AC worked great, and food options were all a big win (breakfast was a highlight every day - don’t skip the freshly squeezed orange justice) and it was overall just a beautiful hotel. If I ever have the opportunity to come back to Lake Como, staying at HRV is a non-negotiable.

Our experience at the Royal Victoria was outstanding. The room, overlooking the village, was both comfortable and welcoming. Be sure to visit Shady for lunch, where you’ll enjoy a spectacular view, and see Aziz after dinner for an excellent digestif.

We stopped for a coffee and found courtesy, kindness and professionalism. The barman was of a rare kindness. The place is wonderful, breathtaking view. A corner of paradise.

Our experience at Hotel Royal Victoria was outstanding. The hotel is in a great location as it is in the the plaza of Varenna and makes all bars, restaurants, and shops very walkable. Our room was a great size and had an amazing view of the lake. Make sure to visit Aziz in the hotel bar and grab a drink while taking in the view of the lake. Aziz was a great host and went above and beyond by making us a dinner reservation at the restaurant he recommended (Al Prato) which was one of our favorite meals of the trip.

There was a problem in our suite and they gave us a better hotel. Lovely staff.

I had an amazing stay at Hotel Royal Victoria in Varenna. At first, I was a bit worried the room might feel too old, but I was pleasantly surprised—it was modern, comfortable, and very well-kept. The check-in process was fast and smooth. The reception staff were welcoming and took the time to share tips on what to do around town. The concierge recommended some incredible local spots to eat—great suggestions! When we returned to our room after a long day, our luggage was already waiting for us inside, and the AC had been turned on. The room was cool and comfortable—such a thoughtful touch. The real highlight of our stay was watching the sunset at the bar. Even though I don’t drink alcohol, Aziz at the bar created a custom mocktail just for me—off the menu! It was a refreshing mix of pineapple, coconut, orange, and lime. Honestly, one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. Wonderful service, stunning location, and kind people. I’m really going to miss this hotel.

Spent 5 nights here as we explored Lake Como. Varenna is a beautiful village and the hotel location on the square is charming. Our room was quiet and comfortable with spectacular views of the lake. Breakfast buffet is a treat. Staff is very helpful and made great restaurant suggestions. We had an emergency situation when we checked out when our prearranged taxi was in an accident and hotel staff arranged for transportation within 30 minutes to get us to airport. We are so appreciative

Had the dreamiest stay in Varenna here with a perfect view and convenient access to wonderful restaurants and attractions like Villa Monastero. Staying here also gives you access to the Villa Cipressi botanical gardens next door which is quite a treat. The AC in the room was outstanding and they had great shower pressure in the room as well. The included breakfast is quite lovely. Highly recommend staying here!
