Typical Milanese bar with homemade food at very affordable prices (about €10 a plate). We ordered saffron risotto, typical of Milan, and pasta, all delicious. 100% recommended

Over the last forty years, the legendary Bar Magenta has gone through some changes in its furnishings and type of patrons: the billiard table, present in the main room at the back left, was eliminated, an area in which, every now and then, a small stage was set up for live musical performances, quite popular. The tables were, in the second half of the 1970s, replaced with more modern ones and then replaced again with others similar to the previous ones, more in conformity with the Liberty-Decò style which characterizes and makes this famous place almost unique in Milan. After the billiards, until the end of the 70s-beginning of the 80s, there was a room reserved for card games, which was removed and, perhaps, used as part of the kitchen or warehouse, it would have been preferable for the room, being able , had remained reserved for an audience that preferred silence and tranquility. The biggest flaw of this place is the noise, which is sometimes unbearable: the noise of people talking would be natural if there wasn't the music playing which is too loud and forces customers to shout to be heard! Another "innovation" that would often have been done without is the large wall screen in the room on the right, the use of which should be limited to football matches and which, in the absence of these, should be turned off. The quality of the food is good, with the famous Magenta sandwiches, including the main one, the classic Speciale, to which are added the dishes and the vast assortment of small plates combined with the "Happy hour" aperitifs, which takes place every evenings from around 6pm to around 8pm. Nothing can be said about the underground room, used as a piano bar, reserved for a limited clientele: I visited it for a few minutes in the seventies and I don't know, honestly, if it is still in operation . Orders are paid upon delivery to the table, with a supplement of 0.50 euros per person. Another recent deleterious habit (years after approximately 2020) is the menu on the mobile phone via QR code: the use of the pages is cumbersome and inelastic. I asked for the paper menu and was told that it was not updated: inconceivable!

It was a pleasant place, original beers and aperetivo drinks as well as open buffet snacks for a low price were a pleasant experience, there was good music and people having fun, the prices were reasonable...

The bar is historic (and it shows), €4 for two cappuccinos (on the price list on the wall it was €1.50), it took more than 5 minutes to be served at the counter... History perhaps isn't enough
