23/11/2025: In winter, the crotto can only be reached on foot, a 40-minute walk. The atmosphere is refined, the food is excellent, and the staff is exceptional. 100% recommended.
19/10/2025: After a nice hike of about an hour, we arrived at the Montepiatto crotto and stuffed ourselves well... an appetizer to nibble on, then we tried the pizzoccheri, polenta uncia (excellent), stew, leek and wild boar crepes (very good), baked potatoes, and a trio of desserts (ricotta and blueberry and rosemary panna cotta tart and chocolate and chestnut mousse—three delights...but the tart is truly amazing). The meal ended with a nice Génépi digestif. We were inside... a lovely, warm atmosphere considering the gloomy day... but since there were also customers at the outside tables, unfortunately, the door was opened too frequently. And this annoyed the customers near it (we just agreed). Other than that, nothing much to complain about... at most, when you book and it starts to get cold, ask for a table near the stove 😉 The guys are super helpful and always smiling. A note about the trail to get there from Torno: we accidentally took a mule track that was blocked in one spot. It wasn't exactly easy, though, and not for everyone...let's say medium-level, because it's constantly uphill. The descent feels the same. I recommend anyone who wants to eat at the crotto to wear suitable shoes and, given the length of the climb, be at least somewhat fit for walking...and then enjoy a hearty lunch!
