Ristorante Etruria In Volterra

Simply amazing! Food, staff, wine, everything was perfect!

The service was smooth and fast. But the food portions could be bigger and tastier. The place has no atmosphere at all. Could use some music. The toilets are in a pretty secluded place. Not worth €60.

Very centrally located in a beautifully maintained historic setting, with very friendly staff. I enjoyed a classic Florentine steak.

⭐⭐⭐ Delicious, but expensive and small portions right on the main square Ristorante Etruria is located in the absolute heart of Volterra's main square (Piazza). Given this prime location, it's easy to assume it's a purely touristy restaurant. While the overall quality of the food pleasantly surprised us, the portion sizes and pricing detracted from the overall impression. The appetizer: We started with the grilled octopus. It was expertly prepared, wonderfully tender, and tasted absolutely delicious. A major drawback: For a hefty €20, the portion was unfortunately very small. The taste was excellent, but the price was borderline exorbitant considering the amount. The main courses (pizza & pasta): Be prepared for something special with the pizza: It deviates from the classic thin Italian pizza that one usually expects in the region. The dough was noticeably thicker and fluffier, which made it look a bit unusual at first glance. However, it tasted really good – I honestly hadn't expected that from the initial appearance! The lasagna also tasted very good, but the portion – similar to the octopus – was unfortunately quite small. It's definitely not enough for a big appetite. Important price tip (drink trap): An important tip for your budget that's easy to miss on the menu: Pay close attention to the pricing of the Coca-Cola. The price jump from the 0.4l to the 0.5l size is extremely high and completely disproportionate. You're much better off and it's cheaper to simply order the 0.4l size. Conclusion: You're clearly paying for the excellent location in the center of Volterra. The food tastes good, but due to the small portions (especially the 20-euro octopus) and the sometimes arbitrary drink prices, it only ends up being an average 3 stars for us.

We only had drinks. The glasses were sticky, the staff was inattentive, no snacks like everywhere else, but an extra service charge.
