I was in Volterra for a family holiday and I came across this restaurant by chance, I approached to look at the menu and the owner, seeing that I was interested, took me on a tour of the kitchen, after showing me around the place he asked if I wanted to eat there the following evening; I accepted without thinking. I was amazed by both the location and the dishes and the service: the dishes are prepared with extreme skill and the service is courteous and welcoming, the restaurant is located inside a truly beautiful period building. I would define it as an obligatory stop if you pass through Volterra.

I had
e hungry and wanted a plate of pasta. What we received at Del Duca, very friendly staff, a beautiful, high-ceilinged room with a great ambience and food that was a poem. We loved Primi, Secondo, Dessert, brilliant. We would love to come back 😊

We went to dinner with my family, there were Michelin stickers on the door so we went in, the place was very nice, the food was good, but the service was terrible for us. They never came to the table, nor did they look at us. I ordered the pasta with truffles which cost 26 Euros, the waiter asked how I preferred it: with white or black truffles and he recommended the white ones, which I accepted. When the bill came, my dish alone cost more than 50 Euros. I really took it as a scam. Anyway, we made the claim but I ended up paying my entire bill.

At first glance the place seems like an elegant place, and it seems to claim it given the menu and certain details, but instead it ends up being a clumsy, hasty and noisy version.
The menu is well written, probably by someone who knows how to eat and cook, but I have some doubts about its execution:
- really good potato and truffle cream amouse bouche.
- The tartare was served with strawberries and blueberries, not listed on the menu, and had onions that were more sweet and sour than caramelised: the meat was good overall.
- The crunchy, a bag of shortcrust pastry filled with mushrooms, sausage and stracchino is a bit of a reinterpretation of a crouton: not crunchy, but not bad.
- good pappardelle with wild boar, thin but consistent pasta, sauce not too wild: perhaps I would have preferred it slightly redder and more aromatic.
Overall all good, not great.
The service, as always, depends on who performs it, the waitress is very polite and attentive, the waiter is a little rough and coarse: unless it is in a tavern, tapping on the arm to talk to the customer should be avoided.
In general, one gets a bit of the impression of a fundamental indecision on style: either you focus on the elegance of a restaurant of a certain level, or on the simplicity of the authentic Tuscan tavern.
I love both, but when I decide where to go: today I went to a nice restaurant but overall I ate like in a tavern.
Value for money to be reviewed, it will be the tourists... because Volterra is definitely worth the trip.

Historic place. The layout is a little dated but excellent products and courteous and attentive service.
