During a one-day visit to Matera, my girlfriend and I, at the suggestion of a friend who found the name "...Da Nico" in the Slow Food guide, were catapulted into the heart of Matera, into an incredibly evocative setting. A little intimidated at first by the location and the overwhelming number of tourists, we trusted the advice and the presence in the guide, and found what was a true immersion in Lucanian cuisine (with a capital L). We ordered a superb platter of cured meats and cheeses (special mention for the pezzente sausage and canestrato), one of the best I've ever eaten in my life. For starters, we ordered fusilloni with caciocavallo fondue and crusco peppers, and cavatelli with pumpkin, dried tomatoes, and guanciale—intense to say the least. Note on the cuisine: the pumpkin was a bit too sweet, perhaps a little out of season, while the fusilloni dish was truly complete; I would have appreciated a touch of acidity at the end of the bite (lemon zest, for example). We order dessert, the nun's tetta, and the waitress, having established a good rapport, surprises us with a "taste" of the cruschi peppers, saying, "You can't miss these." And she was right. I've never had anything so good. Delicious dessert, very light Chantilly cream. And as a final surprise? With the bill, they bring us a small jar of crusco pepper seeds to plant!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. P.S. My colorful note: anyone who gives less than 5 stars doesn't know how to eat. Don't trust me.

Beautiful atmosphere and excellent cuisine A very positive experience: the food is good, the atmosphere is quiet and refined, and the bill is absolutely fair. Special mention goes to the service, especially to the waitress, who guided us through our selection of dishes with excellent recommendations. Everything about the restaurant was impeccable; perhaps all that was missing was that tiny final gesture of attention from the management, which transforms an excellent dinner into a memorable experience. Recommended!

I've been in Matera for 2 weeks now and this restaurant amongst another I've reviewed with top marks has been a highlight. I had the Sausage Ragu Orecchiette to start with then the Cod and finished with a Tiramisu along with a sweet, crisp glass of white. All were absolutely delicious and faultless. The cod especially was cooked to perfection. The service was very friendly and professional. Treat yourself, you won't be disappointed. I'll be back next time I'm in Matera. Good food in a nice setting. Friendly staff once they finally served us. We waited almost 30 minutes to get our wine order taken. But everyone was pleased with the food and staff after that

We asked for olive oil and salt with the dry bread....and then the trouble started....with slow and unpleasant service.....a real shame....

Brilliant service. The regional food won't be to everyone's taste. I really enjoyed it. This restaurant is for those who want to sample typical regional dishes, served elegantly. The appetizer tasting menu is the best choice.
