Retrobottega In Roma

I went to Retrobottega last Saturday with four friends, and I have to say it was an extraordinary experience. Amazing food, incredible wine, and a unique atmosphere: welcoming, lively, and meticulously crafted. Every dish was a surprise, with a quality rarely found, not even in many Michelin-starred restaurants. The staff is exceptional—highly trained, friendly, perfectly informal, and never pretentious. They make you feel completely at ease and convey a true passion for what they do. Without a doubt, the best restaurant I've ever tried in Rome.

Simply spectacular, highly recommended

this restaurant was beyond amazing. perfect if you’re looking for something different from the typical Italian fare but still want excellent food with a nod to tradition. the staff was so knowledgeable and friendly. the atmosphere was unique and very aesthetically pleasing. loved getting to watch the chefs cook and plate the food. we were only in rome for a night so this was our one dining spot and it did not disappoint. the ravioli and katsusando were divine!

I stumbled upon this place by chance. I'd passed by it a few times in the evening and thought it was good, so I made a reservation to give it a try. There were no Chinese customers for a reason; everyone (at least mine) has different tastes, which was a shame. The waiters were friendly, the atmosphere was nice, and there was even a DJ, but I couldn't appreciate the food... and considering the main courses are around 25-35 euros, the 80 euro set menu wasn't very good value. There was a grilled pork chop that looked delicious, but unfortunately it wasn't included in our set. If you're going back, I recommend ordering the grilled pork chop.

Very cool experience. Liked the setup and the service/interaction with the staff and people with us at the table was excellent. Food was really good. Just be sure that if you do the blind menu that you definitely can eat ANYTHING, you might get some dishes that will pus your boundaries so be aware!

Fabulous service and great wine!

The shared table concept is very nice and well executed. The place is beautiful, and the service is attentive but a bit impersonal due to the various nationalities of the waiters. The food is a bit of a roller coaster: the katsu-sando was good, but the zucchini inside had been fried hours earlier and was cold and mushy. The gazpacho (complimentary from the kitchen) with cod was delicious, as were the ravioli stuffed all'amatriciana; the duck was well executed. The pork ribs, on the other hand, were also cold and rather heavy. The wine list isn't very extensive, but it was explained that (rightly) they don't receive deliveries during the summer due to the heat. I must say that the markups on several "trendy" labels are truly exaggerated, so much so that it seems as if some bottles were there more for display and to attract a specific clientele than actually for sale. It's a shame, I had very high expectations, and they weren't fully met.

Interesting and atypical (for me) dishes, well executed. The atmosphere is lively and pleasant, even if it's a bit cramped. Prices are high, as are the wines. An interesting place where I eat something different and very good.
