We visited this restaurant, which is featured in the Michelin Guide, for dinner. We booked in advance, but for some reason the reservation did not go through. We found out about this when we arrived at the restaurant in the evening. The guys found 2 seats for us. The restaurant has an open kitchen, a good wine list. Quite a unique place with large common tables. The dishes are interesting, but not to our taste.

Our party of three had a good meal at Retrobottega, however after the quantity of food recommended by our server as an appetizer we couldn’t enjoy our main much, as were very full. We asked if the appetizers we were ordering were on the smaller side and she confirmed the three would be fine. The fried green beans while great was a large portion, along with the squash dish which was on the heavier side. We also had the cucumber appetizer and somehow ended up with an order of shishito peppers we had not ordered. The mains were very good, ravioli, green pasta and duck.

One of the most interesting meals I’ve eaten in a long time, combinations of fresh local ingredients with a twist of classic Italian flavours. Zara gave us fantastic and thoughtful service, and a wonderful bar recommendation for drinks after dinner. I couldn’t recommend this place enough for foodies visiting Rome. Feels on par with Four Horseman in Brooklyn or Marion in Melbourne.
