Osteria Varanalle In Ariano irpino

On an evening when several restaurants were closed, we found this restaurant open. It was an unexpected surprise! We weren't familiar with it, even though we've been coming to Ariano Irpino for years. They welcomed us kindly, even though we were the only two customers. We sampled a plate of excellent artisanal cheeses and cured meats, flavors that transported me back in time. Three excellent hot appetizers: ricotta-stuffed zucchini blossoms, porcini mushroom tart with chicory and sprigs of crunchy almonds, and crispy breaded caciocavallo cheese. Finally, two first courses: red ravioli with ricotta and Montoro onions, saffron-infused ricotta salata, and spaghetti with lemon, capers, and bottarga. Everything was unique, very refined, and flavorful. All accompanied by an excellent 2020 Aglianico recommended by the owner. We also enjoyed a sampling of homemade cookies and tart, accompanied by grappa and a black cherry liqueur. The owner offers a wide selection of wines, which shows his passion, especially for his work in general. He only recommends dishes after understanding your tastes. We were treated as if the place were fully stocked, being able to choose any dish, which was not at all a given. A truly highly recommended place!!!

A fantastic restaurant, well-known to locals. The road is only wide enough for one car to get there, but once you arrive, it's an absolutely wonderful place where the food is superb and the welcome is perfect, even if you don't speak the language. I highly recommend it. The owners are incredibly attentive and do everything they can to communicate using Google Translate! A delight of local cuisine that makes you forget all about those touristy restaurants you should absolutely avoid.

We were invited by a friend for dinner to celebrate his birthday. It was a great experience. The food was well-prepared and beautifully plated, made with quality ingredients, and the wine was also very pleasant. Three guests had gluten and lactose intolerances, but it wasn't a problem because they prepared alternative dishes for them. We arrived late, so the dinner ended very late. I definitely honored the table, and the next day I was perfect, which means the ingredients and wine were top-notch. Well done, we'll be back.
