Very nice place. Typical regional food. The pizza is also very good. It's close to the center of Matera, yet not in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Rustic restaurant with a vaulted ceiling. Not particularly suitable for vegetarians, as they have a limited selection of vegetarian dishes. However, for those like me who don't eat a lot, a soup or a meatless first course is on the menu, and there's always pizza as an alternative. Reservations are recommended; the place was already packed within five minutes of opening, proving that customers appreciate La Pignata's cuisine.

Very disappointing, contrary to the positive reviews we had read. The appetizer was uninteresting, the beef tagliata was greasy and undercooked. The recommended wine was undrinkable. In short, it was expensive for this type of restaurant; we've eaten much better and for much less before.

The cialledda materana here is excellent, with authentic, artisanal flavors; the pignatella is perfect, but its flavors aren't very distinctive. The desserts are superb (bark and scorzettone). Service is fast, attentive, and friendly. Prices are fair.

A very convenient location, close to the city center, welcoming and beautifully decorated. The menu is very carefully curated and full of traditional dishes; the ones we sampled on the two nights we were in Matera were truly delicious, and the prices were very competitive and commensurate with the quality of the dishes. The service was very efficient, fast, and attentive, and the staff were always friendly. A place I absolutely recommend to anyone lucky enough to spend a few days in Matera.

Pignatella, a stew of potatoes, chicory, and meat cooked under a pizza crust! A simple and delicious trattoria. (Don't hesitate to order the birra rossa a la spina 😜)
