I dined two evenings at this wonderful little restaurant right in the city center, just steps from Piazza Vittorio Veneto.
The charcuterie and cheese platter was excellent and plentiful, as were the other dishes we ate.
Excellent value for money.
Vito and Michele were friendly, professional, and kind.
Highly recommended!

Delicious and excellent service !
We tried the bruschete and then orichete al cima. Verry refreshing and good balance between the tastes. Orichete facio in casa ...
I also tried a local beer, also delicius. If you are a beer lover you shoud try it.
For us it was wasy easy to find a table because we were in april. Also it is not in the middle of the city centre so definitely it is easier to find a table of season.

Excellent service, on a small lateral street or in the interior, with nice staff and the simple, but tasty Italian food as we want when we are in Italy, paired with a local red beer and a café lecesse.

Il Cantuccio (Matera) was a tasteful oasis among the Sassi.
During a school trip to Matera, I had the pleasure of lunch at this restaurant with my fellow travelers.
It was an experience that perfectly combined the breathtaking beauty of the city with the bold flavors of Basilicata and nearby Puglia.
Special thanks go to waiter Vito, who was extremely welcoming and professional.
The restaurant, with its characteristic stone vaults, offers an intimate and evocative atmosphere that embodies the soul of Matera.
Lunch was a quality experience, accompanied by an excellent Susumaniello "Morso Rosso" (Tenuta Viglione), a rich and enveloping Apulian wine that enhanced every course.
We began by ordering appetizers of crispy bruschetta, cherry tomatoes, arugula, and stracciatella, followed by delicious homemade potato chips, served hot and fragrant.
For our second course, some of us chose tender beef served on a bed of velvety mash and topped with caramelized red onion, while others chose a sumptuous roast shank with potatoes, cooked to perfection.
The dish served in a terracotta pan was also very special, a direct reference to the humble yet flavorful cuisine of the local tradition.
If you're in Matera and looking for a place where quality ingredients meet attentive service and a unique atmosphere, Cantuccio is the place to be.
An excellent choice for restoring the spirit (and the palate) after a long hike through the Sassi.

Simple place that served amazing food, especially enjoyed the bean stew, sausage with eggs and pot shank! The veal was slightly underwhelming but still good! Overall a great meal!

Great experience, delicious appetizers, especially the fried ricotta with caramelized onion and turnips. Everything was perfect, even the first courses. Welcoming place, friendly, helpful staff. If you're in Matera, go there. Prices are average.
