A classic osteria serving traditional Pavia cuisine. The food is carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and the portions are generous—an aspect worth considering. We ordered an appetizer for two and then a first course. The house wine is recommended. We'll be back.

Osteria del Povero Lele in Pavia was a wonderful discovery. The service is excellent, and the staff is known for their rare friendliness, making you feel instantly at home. The cuisine is the true heart of the restaurant: every dish exudes the authentic flavors of a mother cooking with love for her family. Dishes rich in tradition, prepared with love, delighted me from start to finish. An absolute must-see for anyone passing through Pavia!

We found this osteria while wanting to sample traditional local dishes, and I must say we were pleased with both the preparation and the ingredients. We were welcomed in a family atmosphere, and the prices were fair.

We went there for lunch on Sunday with friends. What can I say? I highly recommend it! First of all, they were very friendly and welcoming. Then, the service was extremely quick. Excellent value for money. I tried the horse tartar (delicious), the fried porcini mushrooms, and the Sicilian cannoli (all excellent). My wife had the roast beef, mushrooms, and she shared dessert with me. Water and coffee. €24 each! Sure, you're not in a Michelin-starred restaurant, but for quality, selection, and especially price, they're unbeatable! I think they also offer a fixed-price menu for €15 during the week. We'll definitely be back. Street parking is easy. You'll find it in Pavia, across the covered bridge over the Ticino River.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ordered starters and they were all delicious. The ossobuco was very tender and tasty. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff was clearly very knowledgeable.

There were no bruschetta in the 15-euro set menu. However, for 15 euros we got so much more: Gramsci would have called this an "organic lunch," intellectual, profound, for the people. After all, what's the point of form if substance is lacking? The cutlery banged on the table, the plate swept away while you're eating, the orders to leave are just a prelude to the unique experience you can have at Povero Lele. John Cage would have described it as a "happening," experienceable only in the here and now, on the spot. And that's exactly what we saw and experienced, second after second as they took the parmesan cheese from our table. Would we repeat this experience? Nietzsche posed the dilemma well before Povero Lele: if you had to relive this life over and over and over again, infinite times, in exactly the same way, would you accept? And so we booked our next meal in the company of Lele and his honest rudeness.

10/08/2026: I had the ice cream twice, I'd say it's excellent. I must try the mulberry and almond pesto. My husband also enjoyed the chocolate and hazelnut flavors.
04/07/2026: If you're looking for gelato that truly delivers, this gelato bar is definitely the place to be. I especially tried the cup with three flavors: fior di latte, peach, and melon. The fruit flavors undoubtedly make the difference; both the melon and peach stand out for their authenticity, revealing the use of genuine fresh seasonal fruit. This is a far cry from artificial syrups. The fior di latte, also excellent, served as a creamy base that wasn't too sweet, balancing the freshness of the fruit. Special mention goes to the lady who served me, who was kind, friendly, and knowledgeable—an added bonus that shouldn't be taken for granted.

La Gallina Fumante

10/08/2026: Lunch with family. First course, second course, and side dish all at a fixed price. Overall, not bad. Excellent service.
18/07/2026: We're from Pavia, and they told us to try Osteria Gallina Fumante. We looked at the menu, and since it was our first time, we ordered a first course, second course, and side dish, without checking the price. Everything was good. The only downside was seeing breadsticks at other tables. Asked if it was possible to have them, the answer was that those were reserved for those ordering the special menu. Aside from the price for two breadsticks, we hadn't even been informed about the special menu. Then, looking at the menu, I realized that this special menu exists. It was definitely my ignorance in reading the menu, but the lady's explanations were unprofessional and very rude. Another point about the air conditioning inside. We were told that access is restricted unless there are customers inside, but I wonder if I'll arrive in 37-degree heat, and of course I won't go in in the heat now that it's cooled down after I've finished eating. Anyway, the owner is very haughty and rude, but otherwise everything is fine. But she doesn't see me anymore.
