Osteria da Pampo In Venezia

In the quiet and tranquil Sant Elena district we were recommended this neighbourhood gem. We went back four times during our trip - they accommodated our three year old with his favourite - pomodoro pasta and we snacked on delicious and varied Cicchetti with Campari spritzes (my sons obsession with the polpette continues long after our visit) whilst we waited for our mains. Attentive and swift service; good value and wonderful location. Be sure to make a reservation!

If you're looking for ostentatious luxury or those polished Venetian restaurants catering to tourists with menus featuring photos, you've definitely come to the wrong place. Osteria da Pampo is something else entirely. It's located in Sant'Elena, in that Venice where you can still hear the sound of footsteps, not the sound of trolleys, and that alone is worth the trip. The atmosphere: less is more The first word that comes to mind when you enter is authenticity, but effortlessly so. It's not the rusticity carefully crafted by architects; here the atmosphere is simple, almost spartan, but that's precisely what makes it intriguing. It's a place that doesn't try to please you at all costs, and perhaps that's precisely why it wins you over. It feels like you've ended up in the living room of an old Venetian friend who hasn't changed the furniture since the '80s, but who knows exactly how to make you feel good. The lighting is just right, the atmosphere is relaxed, and you don't feel that annoying pressure to order, eat, and run. It's the classic place where you sit down and forget about the clock. Cuisine and vibes The food? Honest. Don't expect Michelin-starred plating or molecular reinterpretations. Here, you'll find traditional fare: cicchetti made to perfection, creamed cod that tastes like home, and portions that won't leave you hungry. It's all very straightforward, without too many frills, just like the decor. Why give it 5 stars if it's not "perfect"? The location: Sant'Elena is a haven of peace far from the madness of Piazza San Marco. The character: It has a personality that many downtown establishments lost years ago. The welcome: Friendly staff, zero snobbery, just plenty of substance. In short, Da Pampo is a must-see for anyone who wants to see a Venice that resists. It's a place that doesn't shout, but whispers, and what it says is damned fascinating. If you embrace its simplicity, you'll leave feeling refreshed.

We had a great time enjoying delicious authentic Italian food. The location is a warm and cozy restaurant. I wish I could try everything. If only I had more time and money :)

Venetian taverns can be a bit of a disappointment, but here, if you don't let the spartan atmosphere fool you, you'll eat well. I had gnocchi with clams and mussels in a delicious stew, which I finished with a spoon and a mop. I also enjoyed the bread and oil... delicious, although the baguette is perhaps not suited to toasting; I'd leave out softer bread, even if it's still toasted. The service is efficient and friendly. I'll return for Venetian dishes, but the promise is excellent. In the summer, there's a lovely outdoor area.
