We visited the place with our extended family, we got served with a four course menu, which were very delicious. Each course was well presented, creative and tasted excellent. The restaurant deserves its Michelin star well and there should be potential for more.
Everything was perfectly arranged and tasteful balanced food, together with the wine selection. Service was smooth, efficient and ever-present.
The overall experience was excellent and we will be back.

This is a solid Michelin meal. All
The dishes were delicious, if not particularly inventive. Nothing blew me away but nothing was a miss either. I take that back—I ended the meal with a decaf cappuccino and that was the smoothest coffee I have ever had! Ambience and service were top-notch. It’s a must-go if in Gargnano (along with Hotel Feltrineli).

La Tortuga is a truly special, family-run restaurant where hospitality feels as authentic as the cuisine. Our server shared that her great-grandfather founded the restaurant, and in 1980 it was awarded a Michelin star. Today, the family continues to preserve that remarkable legacy.
The dining room is wonderfully intimate, with no more than ten tables, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere from the moment you arrive. We were welcomed by one of the family members and immediately felt at home. Many of the other guests were Italian locals celebrating special occasions, which says a great deal about the restaurant itself. One of the highlights of the evening was meeting the grandmother, who has been the restaurant’s head chef for the past 50 years.
We both chose the tasting menu, and every course was beautifully presented, showcasing balanced flavors and exceptional freshness. My standout dishes were the lake fish appetizer, the tagliolini with clams, the branzino, and the perfectly cooked scallops.
We finished the evening with their homemade limoncello, which was absolutely divine.
La Tortuga is the kind of place that reminds you that true fine dining isn’t only about technique—it’s about family, tradition, warmth, and genuine passion. It was a memorable evening and one of our favorite meals on Lake Garda.

La Tortuga is a four-generation strong, family love affair with food that creates a magical dining experience and is, without doubt, the BEST restaurant in the Lake Garda region.
If, like me, you love Michelin-quality food but have little patience for foams, powders, and other style over substance gimmicks, this is the place for you. La Tortuga has held a Michelin star since 1980 — an astonishing 46 years back when the guide was first and foremost about exceptional cooking and that’s what La Tortuga is all about.
Orietta, the matriarch of this remarkable fine-dining dynasty, is a wonderfully charming host who instantly made us feel welcome and at home. Her daughter Sophia is cut from the same illustrious cloth, carrying on the family tradition with warmth and grace.
Everything we ate was sublime. The pesto risotto was creamy yet light, beautifully herbaceous and perfectly balanced. The legendary Fettuccine di Dani, named after the family’s beloved Nonno, was a sublime marriage of magnificent tomatoes and olives, and though I never met Nonno Dani, after tasting his pasta namesake we now love him too! The spaghetti alle vongole was equally impressive, the pasta beautifully bouncy and the clams tasting as though they had come straight from the sea that morning.
The dolci were also outstanding. We had two: an epic chocolate fondant which was perfectly paired with a lychee sorbet, and a custardy peach tart with a beautifully fruity and sharp raspberry sorbet that cuts right through the richness. The first two desserts were so good we ordered a third - a cherry tart with cherry “soup” that I wanted to swim in.
What makes La Tortuga special is that it remains a temple to true Italian tradition, passion and family. The Michelin star is simply the natural consequence of those values and energy in action. In an era when so many fine-dining restaurants seem determined to show off rather than satisfy, La Tortuga remembers the true purpose of great cooking: to bring joy. These types of culinary institutions are so rare these days and that’s why visiting this gem is a must!

What a wonderful evening we had at “La Tortuga”. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in a beautiful and atmospheric setting. The food was truly formidable, prepared with care, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was attentive, extremely professional, but above all very friendly, making us feel welcome from the very first moment.
This evening was extra special because we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary together with friends and family. At the same time, there was also a sad undertone due to a medical situation within the family. That is precisely why we appreciate all the more that “La Tortuga” managed to turn this evening into a warm, beautiful, and unforgettable memory.
Thanks to the entire team at La Tortuga for the excellent service, the culinary delights, and the genuine hospitality. We look back on this special evening with great warmth and would love to return.

Very special place. The team was so attentive and helpful and you can tell how much they care. The food was exceptional and we have been traveling in Italy for weeks now and this was the best pasta dish we have had so far. Simple and yet, spectacular. Highly recommend!

The place is beautiful, with just a few tables served with attention and courtesy. The wine list is limited but has everything you need and is of great quality. Excellent wines by the glass are also available. The food... top-notch: perfect plating, ingredients that are recognized for high-quality dishes. Congratulations!
