An absolute gem in Perugia! The setting is stunning, with beautiful vaulted brick ceilings that create a warm, intimate, and truly authentic atmosphere.
The food celebrates traditional Umbrian cuisine at its best. We had a delicious lentil soup, full of flavor and perfectly comforting. The tagliatelle al ragù was rich and beautifully cooked, and the lamb stew was tender, and absolutely hearty
Everything felt genuine, from the ambiance to the dishes, this is the kind of place where you experience real local flavors in a refined yet cozy setting. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Perugia!

Top of the top. Highly recommended. Must come back. Absolutely worth the price. Trufle ravioli was the best in my life. So were deserts.
It would be nice to see someone there from the service smiling, but the food and the whole experience was beyond humanity.

We had a truly wonderful meal, and it's not a tourist trap. The hotel recommended it, but we'd also read the reviews. The atmosphere is refined, as is the menu, which is visually stunning and delicious. It's definitely not a "low-key" place. My only complaint is the service, which isn't very cheerful, especially the two young women. They seemed annoyed; perhaps they were having a bad day. The waiter who looked after us and presented the desserts was excellent.
P.S.: The dessert trolley is exceptional, all homemade.

We had excellent meals here on consecutive nights. The kitchen creates some stunningly delicious flavors. Our pasta with meat sauce was exceptional both nights, as was the verdure, and the grilled fish...salmon one night and sea bream the other. The atmosphere is exceptional, thanks to the high arched brick ceilings and white walls...The staff are attentive and professiional. Surprisingly to me, as strong as the kitchen is, the wine list is weak. Other restaurants in the area whose food we enjoyed had solid wine lists, with fair markups. For me, it's a puzzling contrast considering how good their food is. Their wines are also marked up far more. I'm including wine lists from a couple of places we enjoyed for examples. La Taverna's are the first two photos.
A top-class restaurant where you can truly relax and unpretentious. Attentive and friendly service, a welcome drink, and an amuse-bouche. Homemade pasta, fantastic salmon (the chef's recommendation), and a heavenly tiramisu. The prices are a bit higher, but definitely worth it.

Best Ragù, anywhere! Dining at La Taverna was an absolute highlight of my time in Perugia. The restaurant strikes that perfect "Old World" chord—it feels proper and historic with its vaulted brick ceilings and white tablecloths, yet it’s completely welcoming and not at all stuffy.
The staff were incredibly helpful throughout the evening, but the real star was the food. I eat ragu everywhere I go, including in Bologna (and despite what they might claim about their own!), and the ragu here is truly on another level. It was absolutely delicious and deeply flavorful. I enjoyed every moment of the meal and would honestly eat here again and again and again. A must-visit for anyone looking for a genuine Umbrian dining experience.
