La Lopa In Matera

We had a wonderful evening with friends. The service was exceptional, compliments to Paolo. The owners were also hospitable and kind. Excellent food and excellent wine. Highly recommended.

We went for dinner as a couple and it was truly a delightful experience. The menu was original, with typical dishes that were tasty and well-executed. The restaurant was very well-maintained and the service was attentive (Paolo was a very friendly, professional guy... special!). The owners were wonderful, welcoming, and helpful. Highly recommended: 10 stars, but it's a shame there are only 5 stars.

The restaurant looks beautiful if you sit on the top floor. It seems like they tuck tourists away one floor down in the cave (near the cinema, a small room one floor lower, where they play clips of movies filmed in Matera on a screen. Most are deadly boring and old, but it is a funny idea). There are only 4 tables on that lower floor, so it's fine if you want to sit very quietly, but otherwise, indicate when making a reservation that you want to sit upstairs. As starters: Il riposo della polpetta (bread balls in tomato sauce) and Carpaccio di Vitellino (veal carpaccio). Both tasted great. Main courses: La pesca dell'arrosto (various types of meat with onion and tomato wrapped in baking paper). Wrapped in baking paper looks nice, but the baking paper probably hasn't been in the oven. And Guancia di suino Nero Lucano (tender cooked pork cheek). Both main courses were tasty, but the portions aren't really large, so side dishes are necessary for big eaters. Wine €8 per glass. Fine wine, but poured very sparingly for €8!!! Waiter Ricardo, only 4 weeks working at this restaurant but served well and was friendly. Also speaks reasonably good English, hey guys….😉 Reservations recommended. Not much cheaper than eating out in the Netherlands.

Beautiful! Delicious food, with vegan options clearly written on the menu. Very welcoming and knowledgeable staff. They even made a vegan sorbet for dessert for us on the spot. Great experience.

Had an outstanding experience with lunch here on a recent visit to Matera. A warm, welcoming atmosphere. Andrea was an absolute pleasure (our favorite waiter of our trip!) He saw to it that we enjoyed our lunch from start to finish and made excellent recommendations of traditional, local specialties from the menu and for wine pairings. The pasta is made by hand daily, and it was exceptionally good. A memorable meal!

The restaurant is very cool! Foods amazing, staff are very friendly.

We had lunch there with an 11-month-old baby. They were extremely kind, thoughtful, and patient with us, as our child is not easy. The food was excellent from the olive oil and bread to the starters, main dishes, wine, and desserts, everything was of top quality. I have been to 11 regions of Italy, and this is one that will stay in my memory. I would definitely recommend dining here. They also have a small cinema at the bottom of the cave, which is a very cool experience. Thank you to Andrea and his new colleague for the excellent service.
