La Lopa In Matera

We had lunch there with an 11-month-old baby. They were extremely kind, thoughtful, and patient with us, as our child is not easy. The food was excellent from the olive oil and bread to the starters, main dishes, wine, and desserts, everything was of top quality. I have been to 11 regions of Italy, and this is one that will stay in my memory. I would definitely recommend dining here. They also have a small cinema at the bottom of the cave, which is a very cool experience. Thank you to Andrea and his new colleague for the excellent service.

A truly special experience. Paolo and Andrea were incredibly kind, attentive, and always present without ever being intrusive. They accompanied us throughout the tasting, carefully explaining each dish and asking if everything was to our liking. Their attention to customer service truly makes the difference. The restaurant is wonderful, nestled in the Sassi di Matera: a place worth the visit in itself. And then the food... an explosion of flavors. Carefully prepared, surprising, truly unique dishes. An experience I will cherish forever and absolutely recommend.

We had dinner at this beautiful and characteristic restaurant in the heart of the Sassi of Matera. Besides the delicious food, what really made it stand out was the professional and warm service provided by Paolo and Riky. We recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try traditional dishes and feel at home.

The experience had its ups and downs and didn't exactly start on the right foot. The place is really nice, but we had to wait about 30 minutes before being seated, which was nearly 25 minutes past our reservation time. Despite the delay, the service was definitely the best part of the restaurant; they were incredibly kind, cheerful, and apologetic, showing a great attitude and willingness to help. Regarding the food, the portions were small and the prices didn't really match what was served; the appetizers, pasta, and desserts were good, but not impressive enough to justify the cost. Specil mention for the fish, it was excel·lent! In short, it’s an amazing place with staff that clearly cares, but the overall value for the price left us wanting a bit more.

Gorgeous cave restaurant for a nice and special Matera dinner. The service is excellent here. We ordered the fried peppers, half board of cheese and half board of cured meats which were plentiful and our seconds were the typical cime di rappa orecchiette pasta (tasty) and beef cheeks which was tender, but somewhat strange in flavour - sourish. Reasonable prices.

I made a reservation at this restaurant, which had good reviews on Google, and when I arrived before 7pm, several customers were already waiting. I had researched local specialties and wanted to try some of them, but I was curious about the fried jumbo peppers I bought at a souvenir shop earlier in the day, so I ordered them as an appetizer. To my surprise, they were served whole! (laughs) However, the Orecchiette con cima di rapa was the best pasta I had on this trip to Southern Italy, and I still regret not ordering Fave a cicoria as my other dish. The city of Matera is like a maze, and it's even easier to get lost at night, so choosing this restaurant, which was close to the hotel, was a good decision.

We ate last night at this typical Matera restaurant. Delightful welcome and unique atmosphere. At the back of the restaurant, in a cave, they've set up a cinema where they show clips from films shot in Matera from the 1950s to the present day. Truly charming atmosphere and good food. Highly recommended.
