Il Santa Bistro' Moderno In Milano

A pleasant surprise. On Friday evening, my wife had a Canadian guest I've known for about ten years. We were going for dinner for three, and I let her take care of the selection and reservations. I arrived early, and the dark, deserted restaurant inside really didn't appeal to me. The area around the regional government building also seemed rather anonymous. We sat at a table outside overlooking the arcade, which had little Milanese appeal. The dinner, however, was pleasant and tasty. We were spoiled and pampered directly by the chef and his mustachioed assistant. The cod croquettes with yogurt sauce were excellent. The first courses, with seasonal legumes, were innovative and creamy, and the white fish steak, cooked and presented to perfection, was also delicious. The desserts were also special. My blancmange with wild berries was truly unique, as was the cassata. Both were slightly sweet and not too abundant, so perfect for a treat before coffee. Compliments to the chef.
