Il Rivale In Isorella

I know the Rivale brand well and we often frequent the other restaurant in Brescia, always with excellent experiences. Unfortunately, the service at Rivale al Lago was chaotic: several waiters asked us the same questions multiple times, our drink order wasn't respected, and the turbot was excessively salty, even for those who like savory food. Poor organization, dessert ordered but requested again by other waiters, and the bathroom was in disreputable condition. Too bad, the location is splendid, but the experience was disappointing.

An excellent culinary experience in a stunning location just steps from the lake. The menu offers a varied and very interesting selection, excellent and beautifully presented dishes, and unique flavors, especially the amazing truffle risotto. The service was attentive and punctual, pleasant and never intrusive, yet very present. We had lunch with two appetizers: a beef tartare with eggplant parmesan, preceded by a welcome entrée, their excellent homemade breadsticks. This was followed by their first courses: an unforgettable truffle risotto and excellent ravioli with bacon and cheese. Their homemade pastries were truly appreciated, including a revisited rose cake that was simply amazing! Everything was perfect.

We spent a lovely evening at Il Rivale al Lago. We booked on short notice and luckily got a table for two and could bring our dogs. Plus for dog friendliness - got some water for our dog immediately. The location is lovely with a nice vibe benefitting of some laid back music playing in the background. Food was amazing and even topped some michelin star restaurants in the region - I personally preferred the food and the play of consistencies as well as flavours better than at e.g. Capriccio. Wine selection is nicely curated. However, for a restaurant that has Coravin I found the selection by the class very disappointing. Only two wines on the Coravin list. Definitely room for improvement. Biggest downside was the service. No refills whatsoever. No explanation of any food we have gotten (possibly due to a language barrier?). No dedicated service coverage - instead there were 4 service personel covering 7 tables and we faced off with everyone of them. Not the kind of service I would've expected in this establishment. Generally service felt a bit distant. Some drinks we ordered - incl a second bottle of water - never arrived. Despite the evening being slow. To top it off, we where charged for 7 desserts (note that we were a party of 2). We were lucky enough to catch this and the bill was adjusted. Nevertheless it left a bitter taste if the service doesn't really care about guests. All in all this place has a lot of potential and outstanding food but deserves much better service personel to thrive.

This was our second visit to this restaurant, and this time it was disappointing. The dishes were all delicious, except for the skewer, which was nothing special; the meat was far too dry. We wanted a grilled steak with fries for our son, but it was served with sauce, spinach, and sweet potato fries. We informed the waiter, but he didn't admit the mistake. The service staff was somewhat arrogant, stressed, and not attentive enough for a restaurant of this caliber. We sometimes refilled our wine ourselves, but the water bottles were simply refilled without asking. We won't be coming back.

The restaurant is located in a lovely spot, and the food — especially the steak — was truly delicious. The ingredients were fresh, the preparation was excellent, and overall, the kitchen delivered a fantastic dining experience. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the quality of the food. When I asked the waiter to recommend a white wine to pair with meat, he looked at me as if I’d committed some kind of culinary crime and dismissed the idea outright, insisting on a red without further discussion. Later, when I asked for a wine pairing with dessert, I was once again met with a condescending attitude and told I should have grappa or a gin and tonic instead. To top it off, we were served two glasses of wine with no clear explanation or choices offered — just handed to us — and only later discovered they totaled €60. In short: excellent food and location, but the attitude of the service staff really detracted from the experience. Hospitality should never come with a side of arrogance.

Fijne ambiance, en lekker makkelijk gezien het restaurant op het terrein van ons hotel ligt. De genereuze portie risotto met truffel was heerlijk romig en precies wat je mag verwachten. Gelukkig had ik daarna een kleinere portie van de Wagu beef (120 g.) met asperges. Ook dat stuk vlees voldeed aan de verwachtingen, heerlijk mals, goed gekruid en vakkundig gegrild vlees. Als toetje had ik (heel saai) gekozen voor zelfgemaakte vanille ijs met pralines. Je hoeft het Italiaans niet machtig te zijn om de juiste gerechten te kiezen, er wordt gevraagd in welke taak je de kaart wilt. Het personeel spreekt meerdere talen. Als ik kritisch ben, zeg ik dat de kok wat gul is met zout. Zelfs in het ijs kon ik het proeven. Hoeft niet persé slecht te zijn, maar als je liever niet te veel zout eet, is dit restaurant geen aanrader.

Ottima accoglienza, servizio eccellente, attenti ai dettagli, qualità prezzo giusta. Ero indecisa su cosa ordinare per la seconda portata, così mi sono fatta consigliare; non potevo fare scelta migliore, piatti eccellenti. Atmosfera altrettanto romantica.
