The location is beautiful (sea view, in a shaded garden) and the food was delicious. The prices are moderately high, but you can taste the quality and spend it happily.
We didn't have any problems with waiting (as I read in other reviews), but it must be said that we ate very late, in a nearly empty restaurant. The staff was very friendly, and the overall experience was truly enjoyable. It's a shame to read so many negative reviews because it's a lovely place, with authentic cuisine (fresh and beautifully cooked fish, including fried fish that was nice and dry). You pay for the view (and the fame of Castellabate).

We (a married couple) were there 7 years ago.
Beautiful view, lovely ambiance.
For starters, we had melon with Parma ham; it was excellent; then scallopina in lemon sauce with French fries and insalata mista (it's on the back of the menu! I forgot to take a picture).
We were also pleased that it only took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive. (The meat could have been hotter, though.)
Overall, we were satisfied.
We were surprised at the reasonable price. Other restaurants in the area would charge considerably more for the quality.

Highly recommended, with a breathtaking view and attention to detail.
The wait time was right; the place was packed since we went on a Friday, yet within an hour we were seated, ordered, and ate. The food was delicious and plentiful, with reasonable prices. Special thanks to the waiter Vincenzo, who was professional, polite, and super helpful.

Wow WHAT a wonderful place to sit, admire the view and eat! I visited recently with friends for dinner. The lady owner came to greet us and hand out menus.
Then water arrived quickly and a friendly young waiter took our order and even tho the place was very busy, our food and drinks arrived promptly.
The food was delicious! Really tasty and we left nothing! After the meal we visited the rooms inside where one can eat when the weather gets cooler, but the garden was perfect for a summer evening AND the location next to the Castle is superb.

The starters were delicious, but it's a shame the service was very, very slow and at times almost rude. Thirty minutes for a prosciutto and melon, and a peppered pasta dish, no. The young lady, who I believe to be the head waiter, was rude and almost seemed annoyed that we'd pointed out how long we'd been waiting. Otherwise, the view was spectacular and the food was good. But if you don't have the patience to work in customer service, don't do this job (I'm speaking as a waitress).
The lady at the cash register and the other waiters were very kind and friendly.

As soon as we arrived, the waiter greeted us and seated us. They brought us the menus. We waited a very long 26 minutes before ordering (obviously mentioning it to the kind lady, I believe, who owns the place). A glass of house wine arrived with a cork or something similar inside. €91 for two first courses, an appetizer, and a liqueur, perhaps too much for such a service. Otherwise, an excellent location. It needs revisiting, and there are certainly many deficiencies in the dining room.

Franco cooks divine seafood dishes, always fresh and just caught. I went to Il Calesse with my family for lunch and we enjoyed the seafood appetizers, the spaghetti with clams, and the paccheri with seafood and tuna. We'll definitely be back; Il Calesse is a testament to our success!
