What a beautiful restaurant and winery. We were welcomed immediately and were made to feel like we were important. I didn’t get the ladies names, but they were also attentive and smiling and very helpful. All this without a booking but I recommend making one ..the owner came and greeted us and was happy to have a chat about his origins, the restaurant and about the winery. He was relaxed and friendly with his team, which I respect. When he was leaving for the day he came to our table and thanked us personally. Excellent etiquette and much appreciated. we were lucky and grateful.
It was busy but food came out quickly and was delicious..I recommend the ‘Bistecca Fiorentina’ it fed the four of us, and we took some home too. Note- The photos of empty plates. You must know empty plates are what the chef is looking for. Compliments to the chefs. The did great!
The wine was delicious, and I highly recommend the red label Sangiovese. If you understand how difficult it is to make this wine(as I do) then you can appreciate and applaud how easy this winery makes it look. Delicious full fruit driven but not showing off and yet lasts long enough on the palate to bring a smile on your face. Congratulations!!🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷
Truly a lovely experience and finishing with a tour of the winery, massive barrels with Elia as our guide.
He was knowledgeable of the history of the winery, which dates back to 1200’s being the oldest winery in Montepulciano and probably the most important winery of the region. Elia was a very friendly and attentive server as well. Always moving around the tables with ease and smiling. He can sing too!

A lovely restaurant in Montepulciano with a great atmosphere, beautiful views from the garden, and excellent wine. As a winery restaurant, they only serve their own wines, and the quality is top-notch. For the first time, I saw a wine list where Montepulciano Nobile makes up 60% of the selection, offering various vintages to choose from. The steak was good and enormous – we couldn’t finish it between the two of us! I’ve had better T-bone, but this one was solid. The wine chosen by the waitress perfectly matched what I was looking for.

Già dall’ingresso il ristorante/cantina prometteva bene, ma una volta seduti siamo rimasti incantanti dalla vista che si poteva ammirare dal tavolo: davvero sorprendente. Non è stata da meno la cucina, noi abbiamo preso un tagliere misto, due primi con gnocchi fatti in casa e due dolcetti. Il tutto accompagnato da un Montepulciano di loro produzione. Nota positiva anche la possibilità di poter abbinare a proprio piacimento il tipo di pasta con i condimenti proposti, noi abbiamo scelto sugo di cinghiale e ragù di chianina in bianco: uno più buono dell’altro. Le signore che ci hanno servito al tavolo erano tutte molto gentili e disponibili. È inoltre possibile, per chi lo volesse, acquistare le loro etichette e visitare la cantina e la grotta etrusca. 5 stelle meritatissime!

What can I say, at Cantina Gattavecchi they are welcoming and very courteous. The wine is fantastic, as are the first ones we tasted. Abundant portions and truly high quality, I think among the best courses of pici and tagliatelle I have ever eaten in Siena and the surrounding area. The location is well-kept and very beautiful. The price is related to the quality of the dishes. Discordant note, which however does not affect the stars: on the mixed platter for two people, you could put at least one slice of each type of cheese.

Nuova genstione dal nome Tenuta Poggio alla Sala. Posto suggestivo e molto caratteristico con possibilità di visitare gratuitamente i tre livelli sotterranei delle cantine.. buoni prodotti la carne molto buona... dispiace per la ribollita che a differenza della ricetta originale presentava formaggio sia nella preparazione e sia grattugiato sopra NON specificato nel menù e presa come opzione vegana consigliata dal cameriere... ma si può sbagliare tutto sommato un posto piacevole dove cenare..
