Eritreo Dahlak In Padova

I had heard of this Eritrean restaurant several times and finally had the opportunity to try it. The place, in terms of size and furnishings, appears somewhat dated: given the wooden tables and chairs, the faded photos and leathers hanging on the walls, the small bathroom with low ceiling, it almost seems like entering the home of a traveler lover of Eritrea than in a common modern restaurant. There's no music in the background either, which makes conversation easier. The owner is a very kind and helpful gentleman, patiently explains the dishes and recommends some even outside the menu. So I tried antelope meat, buffalo strips, boiled vegetables (alicha) and chickpea cream, to be eaten using traditional bread (injera) as a spoon. The dishes are slightly spicy but this does not overpower the flavour. I liked everything! In particular, I really appreciated the hot cinnamon tea, served as a digestive. I was hoping to also try some typical desserts but they are absent from the menu. The final price (€24 per person "fixed menu", drinks included) seems quite correct to me. I recommend going there at least once, to try something different than usual.

The environment is spartan, but the owner and the waiters are very helpful and kind. The meat dishes are cooked in a very particular way and are highly appreciated even by those who cannot tolerate spiciness (which remains very low). We especially loved the tea at the end of dinner. It's a place to try at least once!

How good it feels! Dishes with distant and sincere aromas and flavors (even if there is some Western Paduan license which in my opinion clashes a bit with Eritrean tradition). I suggest the conviviality of the "Amicuzia dish" for the pleasure of sharing and for the taste of the various tastings (antelope, ostrich, beef, chicken, buffalo, vegetables, legumes, ...). Everything good, everything worth tasting. The Host is always delightful, welcoming, loving... a pleasure to listen to the presentation of his traditions. Very basic place, as it should be: non-noisy light, essential tables and furnishings, a "poor" place and also for this reason it is truly welcoming. Pretty cheap. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

It was the first time I ate in an Eritrean restaurant and it was wonderful to immediately have a kind welcome since, who I imagine is the manager of the place, he took great care to immediately explain to us the name of the dishes, the origins and the ways in which to eat the dishes (with your hands, helping yourself with the typical bread they have). Welcoming environment, very intimate and full of images, photos, posters and objects that immerse you in Eritrean culture. There were three of us and we spent around €22 each, including cover charge and two bottles of water... Really excellent. At the end they offered us some tea to digest: a treat. Thank you!

Very special place, very nice owner who passed between the tables to explain the dishes. There aren't many places so it's best to book in advance. Ate very well, right portions. We will come back for sure.

Eravamo stati anni fa, ma qui tempo si è fermato. Si sta proprio bene, un servizio gradevolissimo, cibo ottimo e atmosfera rilassata, come stare a casa. Che bello!

Every year I return, delicious food, tried antelope, buffalo, ostrich etc. Very good, not very spicy so you can taste the flavor of the meat plus the chickpea cream is very good. I recommend a friendship dish so you can share it. Price normal. I highly recommend. Very kind and helpful owner. It feels like family =)

Lovely restaurant, where I felt very kindly welcomed from the first moment. The food was "introduced" to us before being served, so that we knew exactly what we were eating, which I particularly appreciated. Then what can I say, everything was really delicious, without exceptions.

Siamo stati stasera in compagnia. Prima esperienza. Cibo buono sia carne che verdure. Ottimi gli sfilacci di bufalo. Tutto forse appena troppo piccante. Due piatti amicizia 1/2 vino e 2 acque 96€ in 4. Prezzo un po' elevato.
