Good food, very typical. Fast but professional service. It's a shame it can get hot under the tent.

A very popular but well-managed spot. Crotto ombra in name and in fact, and on this day with extreme heat warnings, it's ideal.

The Grotto has a very pleasant atmosphere with a great selection of different dishes and an extensive wine list. There is also ample parking nearby. The welcome upon arrival and after making a reservation (which is highly recommended) was very friendly. The food is excellent and, considering the quality, very reasonably priced. The wine list offers a wide selection. We were there in the second half of June 2026. At that time, the waitstaff seemed very unmotivated. No smiles and no "Buon appetito" when setting down the plates. My wife was a bit quicker with her food, and suddenly her plate was gone while I was still finishing. That's unacceptable in any restaurant, at least in Europe! Smokers are almost demonstratively discriminated against. Either you had to stand outside the entrance or, even worse, in a corner of the terrace next to the toilet, using an ashtray placed on a low wall, where there was also a table right next to it. In every other restaurant in Chiavenna, it's possible to smoke outside at the table, where ashtrays are readily available.

It's the second time I've been back... it never disappoints... the sciat is innovative, something different and they're delicious... not to mention the meat with polenta... the dessert is top strawberries with mascarpone... the staff is always available and very kind... I'll go back again.

The restaurant has excellent service and delicious food. The beef is perfect. Delicious and tasty. The price is reasonable.
