Baccanti In Matera

Not abundant dishes but absolutely excellent food to try

Discovered after carefully selecting other restaurants in Matera... it presents itself, because it is, as a luxury restaurant. Carved into the stone but welcoming, as are the rest of the wait staff, who are extremely attentive to their customers. It has a respectable wine list with prestigious labels, but not only that. The tagliolini with white truffle is amazing, as are all the dishes we tasted. The refined, quiet atmosphere! As a couple, it's amazing! Prices live up to expectations!

This Michelin-guided restaurant was surprisingly affordable, with main courses priced between €20-30. However, we ordered a rather expensive wine (which was very good), making the meal a bit pricey. Here are some notes I took while eating, so delicious it was worth recording: The bread had a crispy crust and a soft interior; it was the first bread I've ever had. The accompanying olive oil had a very pronounced flavor (the label said No. 1). For appetizer, we chose crispy suckling pig with red wine and apple sauce. The pork was incredibly tender and sweet, a delightful surprise. It seemed to have a generous amount of honey added. The apple red wine sauce (Aglianico) was also delicious. However, the yellow honey mustard sauce was rather ordinary. It wasn't cloying enough to finish the whole thing. It was topped with crunchy vegetables (Puntarelle, a type of crisp and sweet chicory sprout), slightly bitter, which was a perfect complement. The main course was Tortelli, which resembled dumplings with a slightly firm skin. Because the filling was mushrooms, it was like a regular dumpling. The chili oil drizzled on top had just the right amount of spiciness, greatly enhancing the flavor. The cauliflower puree at the bottom was very cauliflower-like and tasted great with the chili oil. My friend's main course was roasted lamb chops, which were incredibly tender! The seasoning amplified the lamb's flavor, making them delicious! However, the portion was a bit large, and since they weren't sliced, it was quite tiring to chew. The other main course was stewed beef, but I don't eat beef. For dessert, we had crispy cream puffs. The puff pastry was very crispy and delicious, topped with a caramelized crepe-like filling—very sweet but tasty. The filling had a hint of lemon, but that wasn't my cup of tea. My friend's almond tiramisu was delicious, rich and fragrant.

A gem in Matera. A wonderful place to enjoy excellent food. My personal opinion is that the food is missing something—the famous WooW effect—to make this restaurant excellent. The menu needs to be revised.

Excellent experience in a very charming location in the Sassi district. The dishes are beautifully presented and very well executed. The service is attentive and unobtrusive. Overall, a recommended experience.

Could not recommend this place more! Super sexy, great food, awesome wine list…. It’s just so fun having such a gorgeous dinner and in a cave.

New Year's Eve dinner with impeccable service and excellent food

A restaurant tucked away from the chaos of the city center, offering a friendly and attentive welcome. The ambiance is charming, housed in a large, well-designed cave. The menu is varied, featuring traditional products, often with a modern twist. I surprisingly ate an excellent fresh sea bass, the quality of the ingredients is evident. The wine list is extensive. The price is above average for the local area.
