osteria al cardoncello

09/09/2025: We're originally from the area, and since we still have relatives nearby, we often return in the summer. With fond memories of a dinner there in 2019, we decided to return to what, at the time, seemed like an excellent restaurant with excellent value.
We booked for 1:00 PM. Once we arrived, the place looked exactly as we remembered. As soon as we were seated, we weren't presented with a menu. Perhaps out of naivety or trust, we believed they had the same fixed menu for everyone like years ago.
The appetizers arrived: a rather anonymous selection of cold cuts, pancetta, salami, and a parmigiana terrine. Nothing like the flavors and quality we remembered.
At 1:30 PM, the place was full. At that point, the waiter asked us for patience: the kitchen would "align" with the other tables that had just arrived. We, convinced there was a fixed menu, understood and patiently accepted, even though it seemed strange.
From here on, a frenzy like never before began.
Because the kitchen was open, most of the diners could see what was happening inside. A constant coming and going of people seemingly unrelated to the staff, laughter, jokes, confusion. The staff seemed completely disconnected from reality, as if they didn't even own the place. Some customers got up to get water themselves (perhaps all relatives?). The cooks looked agitated. A package of pasta was opened and fell to the floor (let's hope it wasn't the same pasta we ate later). Meanwhile, the diners in the dining room, growing increasingly impatient, awaited the first course. The waiter's only comment was: "Don't look at me, it's only 3:30, we've only just started."
At 3:30, the first course finally arrived: orecchiette with a single piece of cardoncello mushroom each. The table behind us finds a piece of plastic on their plate, which turns out to be part of the pasta packaging, as the waiter himself admitted (and the question of the fallen pasta returns).
Meanwhile, two impatient tables ask for the bill and leave; we do the same, explaining that we've been there since 1 PM and that we need to get back to start preparing for our trip home.
The waiter, in a rude and indifferent tone, "invites" us to stay because "everything is arriving," and also tells us to say hello to his aunt (up north), as if to say "Hello to so...".
Convinced to get up, in 10 minutes they bring us EVERYTHING AT THE SAME TIME:
1) a second "taste" of the first course each with asparagus
2) 8 strips of tagliata to share between three, so tough that not even the dog wanted them. On the side, old and wilted arugula, probably forgotten in the fridge.
3) 1 pineapple and peach segment each.
4) 3 reheated puff pastry pastries.
Finally, we were presented with a receipt listing the total of 120 euros, with no details about the menu chosen, only the "cover charge" section. Feeling nervous, we politely asked if he thought the service was 40 euros per person. He responded, "You ate everything, the price should be even more." I'll spare you the final details for privacy reasons and unprovable insinuations, but nevertheless, with great difficulty and always with a general sense of rudeness, we finally managed to smooth out the cost situation and bring out the menu (because there is a menu!) with the words "NEW MANAGEMENT" written on it. The menu offers various options, starting from 18 euros up to 40.
Probably mistaking us for passing tourists, they saw us as a classic cash cow. Given the QUALITY, the TREATMENT RECEIVED, and the cost, we can only say: AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. Catering is a whole different ballgame!
And if you're someone who can't stand rudeness and arrogance, avoid it twice. We, with no small effort, kept our cool and handled everything diplomatically, but between the arrogant responses and sarcastic jokes, I assure you it was truly difficult not to completely lose our temper.
05/09/2025: Small but well-maintained. Excellent food. Appetizers with a wide selection of well-prepared local products. Friendly staff, always ready to answer any questions. We tried a wonderful homemade fig compote. Delicious desserts.
