I asked if I could do that while composing the €12 menu, and if he'd said "no, it can't be done," I would have said to put everything on one plate and then give the chicory to my colleague. Instead, he said yes, so I ordered that, knowing I'd be spending €12. And it's not a question of whether or not you're saving €5, because if you don't know the last name, I recommend asking around 😉. It's simply a question of respect and humanity, because someone goes out of their way to be polite, always thanking and saying hello, and then gets made fun of at the register. It's your duty to inform the waitresses how the menu works, and it's their duty to tell them what customers have ordered before they enter random things into the register computer that customers don't know they've ordered.
