03/08/2026: Unfortunately, vegan isn't always vegan. We were pleased to find that Union Lido also offered some Asian vegan options. We ordered hosomaki with avocado and mango, a poke bowl with black rice and tofu, and fried noodles from a very friendly employee. We specifically asked if the noodles were vegan or if (as is unfortunately often the case) they contained egg. Mat told us they could prepare them vegan. It then took a little while for our food to be ready, which we noticed because others who ordered after us received their food first. We think it took a bit longer because it was freshly prepared. When our food was ready, we went to the beach. There, we discovered that the noodles did indeed contain egg. This was quite annoying, as we had specifically asked about it. We ate the noodles anyway, but removed as much of the egg as we could. All in all, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptionally good either (not what you'd expect from a standard Asian restaurant). But if this happens to anyone else: Do better than we did, go back, inform the staff and ask for new pasta without egg.
