Un Saccogoloso is one of those Volterra gems that immediately makes you feel you’ve chosen the right place. Tucked into the winding historic streets just a short stroll from the Piazza dei Priori, it blends perfectly into the town’s warm, medieval character — but once inside, or sitting out on the terrace, it’s the atmosphere and hospitality that really shine.
The staff strike that perfect Tuscan balance of being relaxed, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. From the moment we arrived on our first occasion, we were treated like old friends rather than visitors passing through, which is why we kept going back, day after day!
They were happy to recommend dishes, explain local ingredients, and make sure everything felt just right.
The food is exactly what you hope for in Volterra: fresh, generous, and rooted in local tradition. Whether it’s handmade pasta, rich ragù, or seasonal specials sourced from the surrounding countryside, every plate feels crafted with care.
The portions are hearty without being heavy, and the flavours are unmistakably Tuscan — rustic, comforting, and full of character.
The location adds to the charm. Sitting there, you’re only steps away from Volterra’s ancient stone walls, artisan shops, and panoramic viewpoints over the rolling hills. It’s the kind of place where you finish your meal and wander straight into centuries of history.
Overall, Un Saccogoloso delivers exactly what makes Volterra special: warmth, authenticity, and a sense of being truly welcomed. It’s the kind of restaurant that turns a good evening into a memorable one.

After a day of walking through one of the medieval villages, in my opinion the most beautiful, Volterra, we stopped for dinner, and among the many places that Volterra offers, we chose, UN SACCO GOLOSO, with a traditional menu, the well-kept place, with tables also outside, but we preferred to eat inside, also given the temperature outside. We had gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle, pici cacio e pepe, and pappardelle with wild boar sauce, accompanied by fried potatoes and water. We ate the potatoes, while we waited for the first courses to be brought to us, the wait was not long, just the time to cook the pasta and bring it to the tables. Everything was very good, the scent of truffle in addition to the flavor was delicious, not to mention the pici cacio pepe, tasty and well peeled, and to finish the tagliatelle with wild boar sauce, all the plates were cleaned and mopped up with bread. Everything was very delicious.
