Trattoria Toscana In Portomaggiore

Unfortunately I can't give more than 5 stars! A beautiful surprise! I was in Ferrara for tourism and despite appreciating the excellent cuisine of Emilia-Romagna I chose this Tuscan trattoria being a lover of those lands and those dishes: It's difficult to identify just one highlight, because everything was perfect, but if I were forced to choose, perhaps I would mention the very presence of Baffino, the elderly gentleman who gives his name to the place and who, after coming in person to show us the Florentine as they did in the old days, he enlivened our evening with grace and genuineness through his anecdotes and with a very Tuscan truthfulness and irony (and obviously an accent). The environment is perfect for the type of place: tables with red and white checkered tablecloths, candles, flasks, exposed bricks, blackboards with writings that bring smiles. The waiters are professional and very kind. The location is excellent: in the pedestrian center of the city. The food was truly delicious: from the classic crostini with livers, but also with sausage and pachino tomatoes, through the traditional tomato soup to the steak: market price, 1350 grams of very tender meat which two of us finished, accompanied with a nice glass of house red. The Fiorentina, as is right and normal, increases the bill a little, but I appreciated that the menu was really varied and deep in terms of dishes: for those who don't want to take the Fiorentina, in fact, there are really many quality choices with the possibility of spending less than us who on this occasion wanted to enjoy it... This place deserves it, try it!

I found this place by accident and came in on a Friday night without a reservation. Even though the restaurant was busy, they were happy to accommodate me on a table by the door. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were also very patient with me as I made my brave attempt at asking questions and ordering in my rudimentary Italian. I started with the Antipasto Classico Toscano, a delicious plate of cured meats and cheese. For my second course, I had Pappardelle al ragú di cinghiale, which was absolutely delicious; might I say life-altering? I will definitely be thinking of this dish often. I finished the meal with Cantuccini con vin santo, at the recommendation of the waitress. It’s a few slices of delicious almond biscotti, paired with a small glass of sweet wine. She told me to dunk the biscotti in the wine; she was absolutely right! As for the ambiance, it’s small and cute. It almost looks stereotypically Italian with the red-gingham tablecloths. They could din the lights a bit. If you’re in Ferrara, come to this restaurant (but maybe make a reservation in case you’re not as lucky as I was). Delicious!!!

Locale piccolo ma carino con tavoli apparecchiati come da osteria. Menù vario e ampio molto interessante. Abbiamo mangiato oltre alle tradizionali bruschette miste, con fegatini, lardo di colonnata, pomodoro, e fettunte (pane toscano tostato con olio e sale), ecc... Anche ribollita e trippa alla toscana. Veramente tutto molto buono. Abbiamo fatto i complimenti ai ristoratori per la qualità e bontà della trippa. Chi ama questo piatto dovrebbe provarlo. Da tornarci. Ho visto delle fiorentine pesate al tavolo che sono all'occhio strepitose e da provare alla prossima volta. Ah, dimenticavo, i cantucci con il vin santo sono morbidi e buoni e non ti rompi i denti....

Conosco questo locale da almeno 10 anni.. dapprima che si spostasse da Portomaggiore. Ho sempre trovato qualità eccellente nel cibo ed estrema gentilezza nel personale, oltre all' ambiente sempre molto pulito e ordinato. Dubito vivamente la maleducazione da parte dei proprietari, che mi hanno sempre servito anche pasti fuori orario... dipenderà forse da come ci si pone e si chiedono le cose??? Da Baffino è sempre una garanzia!!!

Noi abbiamo mangiato benissimo. Tutto squisito, dall' antipasto, alla fiorentina, ai dolci!!! Anche le nostre bimbe hanno gradito. Grazie!!!!
