We stumbled upon this restaurant in the neighborhood and absolutely loved the experience. The place is very peaceful and the service is excellent. And the food? It was exquisite! We tried the cacio e pepe and the pappardelle with ragù, both a 10 out of 10. The bruschetta mix was also fantastic. And the Tuscan wines are a delight.

A very quaint and quiet neighborhood trattoria. The food was truly excellent and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The staff was friendly, and the place was clean and well-decorated. The bill was more than fair: €80 for two, including wine, appetizers, first courses, dessert, and grappa. Highly recommend!

Very tasty food – we ordered the Bistecca alla Fiorentina and the beef tenderloin – excellent meat. A lovely place with a great atmosphere and fast and friendly service. I highly recommend it!

In search of a typical Tuscan trattoria, we were not disappointed. The Florentine steak was excellent, and the vegetarian options were also excellent (stuffed onion and gnudi). Very friendly and attentive service. The staff were especially kind, everyone was always saying "please" and "thank you" to each other. Having worked in the restaurant industry, this is a plus, and as a customer, it's very pleasant!

During my career as a real estate consultant for the Keller Williams Group, I've had the opportunity to interact with numerous restaurant businesses, both in Italy and beyond. Having lived in Florence for over twenty years, I can say I know the city's culinary scene quite well. For me, dinner is never just a meal: it's conviviality, connection, work. And, sometimes, even a personal, almost intimate moment. In fact, I often share my solitary dinners with my basset hound, Arturo, a presence that has become a distinctive trait, not only personally but also professionally. This is where my experience at Trattoria Sant'Agostino comes in, and it proved to be a truly enjoyable one. The dinner followed the canons of Tuscan tradition: a well-executed peposo, a fresh and balanced artichoke salad, a rich and authentic platter, all accompanied by good wine. Simple yet carefully crafted dishes, capable of expressing a precise identity. The balance between quality, price, and service is, in my opinion, excellent. I recommend this place for two reasons. The first is based on a personal conviction: I'm a fan of Made in Italy, and in a city like Florence, where a significant portion of the restaurant scene is influenced by influences far removed from local tradition, finding a place that maintains consistency and authenticity is a valuable asset. The second concerns the overall experience: a comfortable, well-kept, clean, and aesthetically pleasing environment, where you can sense attention and respect for the customer. Finally, a round of applause goes to the owner, whom I haven't had the pleasure of meeting, but whom I congratulate for creating such a well-balanced place, capable of combining quality, identity, and hospitality. And a sincere thank you for the discount applied without my asking: a spontaneous, elegant gesture that speaks volumes about the restaurant's style. A place worth recommending, whether for a business dinner or a more personal occasion.

We are here for 4 days and not red meat eaters. We searched for chicken dishes and reserved a table 15 minutes ahead of arrival without reading reviews, only the restaurant overall rating. We enjoyed our food: minestrone soup, sliced chicken, spinach, roast potatoes, tiramisu- all tasty. However, we waited an hour to be served after ordering and then finally served after mentioning the wait to the owner, who was attending many things. I felt they accommodated my friend’s very specific food issues with grace. Their reviews mentioned wait time over the years and food quality versus price. I felt the chicken was over priced but a good portion. Some older negative reviews seem to focus on what I perceive as tourists unfamiliar with Italian cuisine. Bottom line: I think over time the owners have improved from watching the reviews, but as many expensive cities, have difficulty keeping kitchen help to run smoothly. You might wait too long after ordering- so due to that, I won’t return.

L'ORTONE

15/04/2026: Spaghetti was outstanding and the lamb chops were superb. Combined with great service and a vibrant atmosphere led to a super dining experience.
12/04/2026: As a Roman, trusting the word of mouth among locals, I decided to try it when I came to Florence. The place immediately looked charming, with tasteful wood and stone furnishings. Sitting at the table upstairs, we were served by Leida, polite, professional, knowledgeable, and friendly, who was able to point out the cuisine's highlights. The appetizers were excellent, including caponata, fried tongue, cannellini beans, baked cabbage and broccoli, and fried anchovies. Again on Leida's recommendation, we tried the amazing grilled gnocchi with oxtail sauce. For the main course, Leida raved about their Fiorentina steak. Excellent, tender, flavorful, and surprisingly delicate. The braised beef cheek and pork leg were also excellent, all accompanied by baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. To finish, Leida managed to get us to enjoy Sacher torte, apple pie, cantucci with vin santo, and a few drops of Labaro. The wine list is also interesting. Excellent evening. I'll pass the word along, you guys can go eat at Ortone.
