We tried several dishes, some good (the scallops in Marsala, the caponata), others lacking (the parmigiana, the spaghetti with braised clams). The service was extremely slow, but they explained to us that there was a kitchen shortage. Overall, mediocre.

The food is just exceptionally good, very good value for money. The staff is very friendly and generous with the homemade limoncello. I highly recommend it!

Wonderful local restaurant and very polite staff. We had 2 pasta dishes. One with pistachio and sun dried tomatoes and the second one with anchovies! It was fantastic😌

2025 10 10 visited for dinner A good trattoria in the center of Catania, with a wide selection, especially fish. Good caponata and fried sardines in beccafico, excellent rigatoni alla norma. We also had baked fish with potatoes, onions, and olives. Generous portions and fair prices. Simple restaurant. Constructive criticism on one dish accepted by the chef.

Food was delicious, rigatoni alla norma was exceptional, but we were not warned about additional charge per person, which was 2 euros and also didn’t get the complementary basket of bread that every guest around as did, so that’s kind of a bummer

As food lovers we are on the lookout for authentic expirience, and flavors. From the moment we arrived, Fabio, our waiter (and also a talented chef), made the experience special with his genuine dedication to the food and authentic mediteranian style of hospitality. The dishes were served in generous portions that felt just right. We also appreciated the great, affordable house wine, not of expensive kind, true trattoria rustic style, which perfectly complemented the meal. The trattoria itself is a cozy spot right on the sidewalk, giving it a relaxed, traditional vibe—definitely not for those expecting anything too polished or formal, but perfect for anyone who loves honest, heartfelt cooking. All in all, it was the best dining experience we had in Sicily. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys authentic, flavorful food served with passion.

Trattoria il mare has become the safe space during my staying in Catania. The food and the service are amazing and once you sit at the table you can feel like you're at home. The recipes are the ones of the Italian tradition and are done with high quality ingredients. A real hidden gem in Catania.

Locale semplice ed accogliente, nel centro cittadino. Atmosfera casalinga, servizio gentile. Il personale tende, almeno nel mio caso, a indirizzare con una certa pressione verso piatti ‘consigliati’. Mi lascio orientare e così provo per antipasto un piatto di telline, gustose, con un vivo sapore di mare, forse per i miei gusti un po’ salate. Prima però mi arrivano delle bruschette, offerte dalla Casa. A seguire scelgo una spigola di non grandi dimensioni. Difficile dire se sia stata d’allevamento o pescata in ogni caso il sapore era buono, anche se servita con abbondante sugo di pomodoro (strano per una spigola, che mi sarei aspettato alla griglia). I prezzi una incognita, visto che non mi era stato portato un menu e il conto non era dettagliato. Pago in contanti (il bancomat non c’era o non era disponibile quella sera) poco più di 25 euro. Che dire? Mi è sembrato buono e piacevole ma non mi ha convinto del tutto. Ci dovrei tornare per una valutazione più ‘sicura’.
