We had a delightful evening at Sette Tavoli, sitting at one of their tables outside. The starters were the highlight of the meal — we loved the Bolognese cutlet and mortadella mousse. Truly special and delicious. The pastas were great too; we enjoyed the carbonara tortellini and the ragu. We also tried the popcorn crusted duck which was well cooked but a little bland but when we added salt, it was completely transformed. So we recommend the duck but to make sure to add salt. Finally we ended with the tiramisu which emphasized the chocolate and biscuit (it wasn’t simply a mountain of cream) which we really enjoyed. This makes for a wonderful celebration meal and although we were unsure initially after the mixed reviews, we are so happy we went and would go again next time we’re in Bologna.

Fantastic Restaurant only with 7 tables. Short, delicious menu, the best tiramisu ever! Nice, staff and charming owner!!! Beautiful decorations on walls and ... jazz music!

We're in front of the Duse Theater, waiting for a concert. We sit under the portico without a reservation: perfect! We have a relaxing dinner with friendly and impeccable service. The tortelloni alla carbonara are excellent, but the reinterpretation of the Bolognese cutlet is a little less so. A wine list is provided and the bill is reasonable.

Seven tables, but that becomes 14 if the other seven are set outside under the portico, a strategy perhaps used when the restaurant next door, Duse, has a show scheduled. However, the staff is always the same and the waits are long. A glass of regional wine for €7 isn't exactly cheap. More suited to foreigners than locals, the food quality is still good, minus the total price, but they're in good company with all the restaurants in the historic center, which locals frequent less and less if the prices are like this.

A special place, where you feel at home. The owner is very sensitive and knows how to treat guests, as are the two ladies who serve the tables. Everyone is very good, and the food is excellent.

Dinner. A late, velvet Monday in Bologna. The city was whispering, but Sette Tavoli was singing. We found ourselves—by some divine, viticultural intervention—seated at the Hemingway table. Ernest himself! A man who understood that a clean, well-lighted place must, by law, involve a bottle of something sturdy. There was a quote, etched in the local tongue, regarding wine being the most civilized thing in the world. I’ve translated it for the plebs, of course; one mustn't let the unwashed masses miss out on the 'greatest perfection' simply because they lack the linguistic stamina. We began with the Pumpkin Tart. A golden, squashy revelation! Bathed in a smoked provola cheese cream that had the olfactory allure of a wood-burning stove in a palace, finished with toasted walnuts for that essential, crunchable gravity. It was... monumental. Then, for the main event: Homemade Tagliatelle. Ribbons of silken, hand-cranked joy, entwined with a Bolognese ragù so honest it made one want to confess one's sins to the waiter. Followed immediately by the Marinated Pork Belly. Oh, the glisten! The wobble! Glazed in its own stock and served with a cinnamon-flavored apple purée that danced upon the tongue like a spice-merchant at a wedding. It was—dare I say it—transcendent. We concluded our ritual with the Tiramisù. A cloud of caffeinated masquerade. Absolute, top-class sorcery. The wife was, as usual, 'perfectly satisfied,' which is her way of saying she didn't choke on a walnut. I, however, was in a state of gastro-spiritual collapse. Sitting there, in Hemingway’s shadow, surrounded by such culinary 'perfection,' I realized that everything else—the looming Tuesday morning, the state of the pound, Janey’s concerns about the hotel plumbing—was merely... static."

An experience not to be missed. The atmosphere is small, but very refined, intimate, and tasteful. The dishes are absolutely excellent in flavor, preparation, and presentation...with some creative touches. The service is impeccable, with expertise and friendliness. The wine selection is good. The prices are absolutely fair.
