A welcoming restaurant between Terni and Narni along the Via Flaminia (SS3). The exterior offers a wonderful view of the Terni valley. The staff is attentive and professional. The food is delicious and unique. Recommended.

A beautiful, tastefully renovated old farmhouse, perched on a panoramic hilltop with convenient parking. The food is good, including excellent meat. They strive for trendy, refined cuisine, and the prices reflect this, though they don't always succeed. Dishes tried: - Rustico Tasting, a sampling of the four appetizers on the menu, cost €20, too much for a bite of tartare (the meat was excellent and well-prepared, but the caramelized onion, cooked at a low temperature, was also excellent, and overpowered the flavor of the meat). A fried couscous meatball on chickpea hummus was good but not tasty (the hummus didn't really add anything to the meatball, which didn't taste much, even though it was well-breaded and not greasy). A potato tart with truffle and guanciale (a good combination). A savory cannoli with ricotta and anchovy sauce, served with vegetables and a salad (a great idea, but the cannoli was too hard and fell apart when you tried to bite into it or cut it, and the anchovy was too strong, overpowering the rest of the flavors). - Tagliatelle with truffle, delicious and rich in truffle shavings. - Off-menu: paccheri with pumpkin cream, bacon, and chopped walnuts, excellent, plentiful, and richly seasoned. The pasta was slightly overcooked (personal preference), but still a successful dish. - Tagliatelle with tomato ragù for the child, plentiful and tasty. - Pheasant breast wrapped in bacon, green beans, and citronette sauce, looked like sausage, tasty and perfectly cooked, but the green beans were disproportionately abundant compared to the meat. - Sliced beef, well-cooked but not exciting, served with coarse pink salt, not exactly ideal for adding to the meat (better to use a refined medium/small-grain wholemeal salt from traditional Italian saltworks). - Rabbit in pistachio breadcrumbs stuffed with vegetables on a red onion cream. The meat and the combinations were excellent, even though the vegetables were barely noticeable. - Roasted potato rings, tasty and soft. - Espresso tiramisu, tasteless without espresso. The ladyfingers weren't soaked, the coffee wasn't noticeable. The cream was good, but certain desserts are really good if made hours ahead of time to allow the various ingredients to meld together. The dinnerware used to carry the dishes is very unique, but the pairings are often completely wrong when it comes to presentation. For example, the breaded rabbit with red onion sauce (the sauce was dark, the rabbit dark) was presented on a plate with a modern, asymmetrical design and dark brown/dark gray/blue colors that almost obscured the food. I recommend a light-colored plate to contrast with the colors and highlight the dish. Dark dishes like these can, however, enhance light-colored dishes, or at least serve them on light-colored plates. Overall, it was a nice day and we ate well, but the bill was a bit surprising (even though, looking at the prices on the menu, we were quite prepared).

In reality, 5 stars is a lot; such a high rating should only be given for excellence. Obviously, this isn't the case, but the staff is very young (all women), and I think an extra star is warranted. The location is nice, relatively small, and welcoming. The natural "terrace" overlooking the valley is beautiful; it's truly enjoyable on beautiful summer and spring days. The food is high-quality, especially the meats. The fried pulled pork is truly amazing. I would have preferred a little more punch on the pasta, which is a bit bland. As mentioned in the introduction, there's nothing to complain about with the service. What I liked most was the atmosphere; there were many other people there, but the location was so convivial that it felt like we were one big group. I really enjoyed it. Mission accomplished.

Oste della Mal'ora

24/11/2025: I was here last Saturday. I wasn't familiar with the place, but it was a pleasant discovery. The owner welcomed us with a smile and, even though we hadn't booked, he let us dine (there were three of us). For my first course, I had the caserecce with pumpkin, bacon, and parmesan. Spectacular! For my second course, I had delicious pork ribs with BBQ sauce. I also had dessert: a cinnamon crumble with cream and pears—not bad! What can I say... I recommend anyone passing through Terni to stop here. Very good dishes at fair prices. I'll be back.
18/11/2025: The Osteria della Mal’Ora in Terni is a place with soul – and its very name reveals much about its special character. Inspired by Luigi Volpicelli's novel of the same name, which focuses on the atmosphere of Italy's simple, honest taverns, this restaurant embodies the spirit of those "Mal’Ora": an authentic place where you can escape time for a few hours and experience genuine, unpretentious hospitality. We would particularly like to highlight the owner, whose personal, warm manner shapes the entire experience. He takes his time, offers passionate recommendations, explains the background of the dishes and wines, and makes you feel not like a guest, but like a friend. This human touch is what makes the Osteria truly special. As for the cuisine, all that remains to be said is that it is a celebration of Umbrian tradition, given a modern twist, deeply rooted in local ingredients, and prepared with great artisanal care. The homemade pasta dishes, the tenderly prepared meat, and the creative reinterpretations of classic recipes demonstrate the love and skill that goes into every plate. The wine list is also superbly curated – the owner offers expert and insightful recommendations. Overall, Osteria della Mal’Ora is an exceptional place: inspired by literature, offering culinary excellence, and filled with warmth. A memorable visit that you'll definitely want to recommend.
