We went to this restaurant with friends for the second time on Sunday, May 17, 2026. We had a truly wonderful meal. Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Fair prices. I highly recommend it.

Osteria il re gallo is the loveliest restaurant you will find at Castellina in Chianti. The restaurant is located on the main piazza. They are a little hidden gem as they are small but they will steal you heart away. They have a wonderful menu full of traditional dishes with Fiorentin touches. Their wine is excellent and they have impeccable service. The zucchini risotto and their charcuterie is exquisite. Also their parmigiana is incredible!!! The atmosphere is cozy and the value for money is very good. In the toilet, they even have toothbrushes, sanitary material at disposal and they allow dogs. Truly a restaurant to stop by in Castellina. I highly recommend for a family or a date dinner.

Excellent restaurant in the center of Castellina in Chianti, with a typical Tuscan atmosphere. We ate as a couple, and had a delicious Florentine steak and pappardelle with wild boar ragù (excellent). All washed down with an excellent Chianti. The staff were friendly and attentive. A complimentary liqueur was offered at the end. Reservations are recommended as the restaurant is small. The price was good considering the 1.2 kg Florentine steak.

Good service, homemade food, and they serve quickly. Located in the town square, very welcoming. Excellent value for money. There were two of us. We recommend booking in advance.

Truly a top restaurant, impeccable in every way, with extremely friendly staff, a lovely atmosphere, and top-quality dishes! I recommend the tagliata, it's absolutely amazing; it's so tender it melts in your mouth.

16/07/2026: A truly positive experience, the food was excellent and refined. I drank an excellent Vernaccia Riserva, which, even if it wasn't excellent, was nonetheless excellent thanks to the explanation, storytelling, and expertise of the waiter. It's truly beautiful. It's rare to find places in tourist cities where the staff are knowledgeable and don't try to rip off tourists, especially considering the same treatment for foreign guests. Compliments, highly recommended, even for the price.
03/07/2026: Great private chef experience with Saverio. We were a group of 16 - cooking for a party that size every night was quite a task so it was great to be able to book Saverio to look after us for dinner one evening. Terrific food and lots of choice. We enjoyed it so much we booked him again for another dinner during our stay. He is a super friendly guy, great communication and really helpful. We would thoroughly recommend him. Thanks so much Saverio!

12/08/2026: I stumbled upon it by chance and it was simply the best restaurant I went to on my trip to Italy. My dish and my fiancée's were unbelievably good, great wine, excellent service, and a fantastic atmosphere with a breathtaking view. I highly recommend it.
06/08/2026: Everything here is incredible: the location, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of a beautiful village; the food, which is truly sublime (we drove an hour during our stay just to come back!); and the staff! They are so kind, helpful, and friendly, offering great advice, all within a stunning setting. The next time we return to Tuscany, we'll definitely stay closer to this restaurant, which will become our go-to spot! Special mention to PierLuigi and his wife, who combine originality and kindness. Arno and La Ruffiana 😉
